Hahaha, a lot of people don't realize that I'm in Asheville and not Colombia. We have been living here for 18 years. It is a great mountain town, my only complaint is that is not very culturally diverse but I still love our city and our community.

Yes! The Admiral still is open and I have been there, we actually live in that part of town. The place still is very hipster and has gained national reviews for their delicious food so a lot of tourist visit it but many locals too. Before the pandemic we have really good restaurants but they have taken a hit and several have closed since last year. That's very cool that you have a cousin with a place near here. If you come to Brevard later this summer for sure let me know, it would be nice meeting some GOT friends in person.

Btw, where in the US do you currently reside?

I'm in Jacksonville.

edit - the one in Florida, BTW. There are several more.

I have been in Jacksonville once but driven by it many times since my husband's best friend lives in St. Augustine. My younger sister lives in Orlando so we have a few family and friends residing in the sun shine state :)

Just started my yearly cut to lower my bf for summer. I usually sit around 15% in the off season and go down to 6-8% during summer so I can enjoy the beach and BBQ season! I have been cooking some very delicious and healthy recipes the last week or so, fitness and nutrition is my hobby so I will definitely post some pictures! I let myself slip in terms of calorie intake the last month or so (guess I was just enjoying myself) but now I’m cooking all my meals. Anyone got any healthy recipes they’d like to share also? Thanks in advance.

I would be delighted to exchange healthy recipes, it would encourage me to prepare them more often now that spring is approaching so I can be bikini ready lol

@R.Reddington not sure if you are into smoothies but here is a link to variety of delicious fruit shakes. The Sweet and Spicy Tropical Smoothie, Blueberry Coconut Water Smoothie, and Creamy Banana Smoothie are some of my favorites but there is many other recipes.

Thanks for the ideas. I am not majorly into smoothies and they don’t tend to fill me up and leave me wanting more food. I used to smash down the mass gainer smoothies when I was younger and just starting out the gym as a skinny teen.

I might give the blueberry coconut smoothie a go tomorrow and see how it goes, will let you know.

Not everyone is. I grew up savouring lots of different smoothies or juices made from tropical fruits so I have always love them. Good luck with the blueberry smoothie.

What sort of healthy recipes do you enjoy preparing?

I like making things like sweet potato fries with a serving a meat and veggies. Tacos is another favourite of mine, as well as quesadillas (discovered them when I dated a Mexican girl for a while). I eat a lot of chicken in the cutting season as it’s high protein, low fat and low carb so exactly what you’re looking for. Another favourite of mine is oatmeal, you may think it’s a simple dish to make but you’ve got to time everything and add the right toppings to make it delicious! I love making steak, it’s probably my favourite food to eat but I don’t eat it too much due it’s high fat content. One girl I dated used to cook amazing protein pancakes for me (she was into the gym too) and I still make them to this day! They’re filling and low calorie.

You live in America, right? I lived in Oklahoma for a year and I gained so much weight! I went to the gym maybe 4-5 times a week but due to eating out 2-3 times a day I got so bulky there. My parents didn’t recognise me when they came to visit! In America you can either be really healthy or really fat, is there even a middle ground?

Do you bother tracking your calories? I have an app called MyFitnessPal and it’s really helpful, especially when I’m being strict on the diet.

We have similar taste. I really like sweet potato fries too and many recipes with sweet potatoes. Mexican food is probably one of my favorite ones too and I have a few healthy Mexican recipes that could be appealing to you. I also do cook a lot of chicken with veggies or salads because of the high protein intake and low calories. I like oatmeal, I had some for lunch this morning, but my more filling breakfast have eggs. I love eggs and they are high on protein too and very filling so after working out I tend to eat eggs. My husband's favorite food is steak, he loves to BBQ ribeye steaks at least once a month, they are super delicious, and we usually have them with lots of grilled veggies to keep as healthy as possible lol

Yes, you are right. I currently reside in Asheville located in the mountains of North Carolina. I have never witnessed people fatter than Americans, unfortunately some people in this country have a very unhealthy relationship with food and the food industry doesn't help when they are feeding people a bunch of processed food. Moreover, people with low-income resources have no choices but to purchase such food. Eating well also requires time and a lot of effort and some people are not always willing to do the hard work. Between all the cooking and cleaning it can be quite a lot for some folks. How long ago did you live here in the US? and where do you currently reside?

There are times that I have kept with my calorie counting specially when I was focused on losing some extra pounds that I gained after pregnancy and when I was eating a lot due breastfeeding. Now days I have not been as good with calorie counting since I'm in my ideal weight and I currently workout 6 days a week which helps me keep my weight in check eventhough at times I'm eating things such as pasta and sweets more often than I should. When I do count my calories, I use the FatSecret app.

@R.Reddington here are the links to a few healthy Mexican recipes that I have made in the past.

Dutch-Oven Raisin Walnut Bread

This bread recipe is delicious and super simple to make. It is my daughter's favorite.

Ingredients
6 to 7 cups (125 grams per cup) all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons salt
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped walnuts
3 cups cool water (70° to 75°)

Directions

  • In a large bowl, whisk 6 cups flour, sugar, yeast, cinnamon and salt. Stir in raisins and walnuts; add water and enough remaining flour to form a moist, shaggy dough. Do not knead. Cover and let rise in a cool place until doubled, 7-8 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 450°; place a Dutch oven with lid onto center rack and heat for at least 30 minutes. Once Dutch oven is heated, turn dough onto a generously floured surface. Using a metal scraper or spatula, quickly shape into a round loaf. Gently place on top of a piece of parchment.
  • Using a sharp knife, make a slash (1/4 in. deep) across top of loaf. Using the parchment, immediately lower bread into heated Dutch oven. Cover; bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake until loaf is deep golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped, 20-30 minutes longer, partially covering if browning too much. Remove loaf from pan and cool completely on wire rack.

Test Kitchen tips
  • This is a soft, gentle dough that should be baked immediately after shaping. Working quickly and reheating the Dutch oven prior to shaping are the keys to success.

I'd stay away from eggs post workout as you want a fast absorbing carb into your system such as cereal or oatmeal due to your muscles being severly depleted during your workout. I usually have a bowl of coco-pops with almond milk and protein powder, works a treat. The missus loves steak too, when we have it she gets really excited and happy (as do I).

People in the UK can be fat, but I've never seen anything like what I saw in America. My girl watches lot's of TLC and all that is on there is about fat people in America which I find funny! I lived in the US for about a year, I also lived in Mexico for about 6 months (this is a story for another day). I had some crazy experiences in the US, one being almost dying in a bad car crash which took a while to get over. I currently live back in England with my woman, she isn't English but from Kazakhstan (I'm not sure if you've heard of that country). They have some very beautiful women there and I'm a lucky guy to have met her.

At time I train 6 days per week but I find my recovery a little bad so I scale it down to 5 days p/w around 1.5 hr per session. I'm lucky I have a home gym built and haven't stepped foot in a gym for a year now since we went into lockdown but still maintaining my gains and even putting on some muscle in this time. It's always good to be prepared for situations like we are in and I don't even know if I'll bother to go back to my gym.

Great. I have learned something new about post workouts food. I don't eat much cereal except for granola that I make myself but I'm definitely going to keep this food tip in mind from now on.

Lucky you to have a home gym built. Do you do a lot of weight training? That's a long workout session. I used to do mine that long when I was going to the gym but at home I have been limiting mine to a little bit over an hour but exercising at home always comes with challenges for me as I'm constantly interrupted by my daughter needing something lol so while I'm proud that I have kept up with my exercise routine for a whole year at home and I have created my own space to workout, I do look forward about returning to my gym at some point once the pandemic is under control and I have gotten vaccinated. I'm not quite ready yet though so I will continue pushing forward at home for sometime longer.

I hope you were not traumatized by your crazy experiences in the US. A bad car accident can be so physically and emotionally draining. I too experienced a bad car wreck 15 years ago and while my injuries were not life threatening it took a long time for my body to fully recover, even at times when I do some weight training exercises I still have to be careful not to irritate the injury.

I have definitely heard of Kazakhstan before, I like watching travel shows. I'm sure your girl must be beautiful, women from that area of the world tend to be very gorgeous so you are indeed a lucky man. Is she into exercising and healthy eating too? My husband hates working out, his thing is hiking or bike riding when it comes to exercising. When it comes to healthy eating he has no choice as I'm the one who does most of the cooking but he does prefer a diet with lots of protein but I cook some vegetarian dishes a couple of times per week to cut our meat intake.

Is there any food that you try to stay away? Or don't like much such as smoothies? I look forward to you sharing some of your healthy recipes.

Cheers!
