You only to look at over the park and their quite laughable transfer committee to see how it shouldnt be done.

"An ode to Benteke" as i mentioned on the OP...also see Spurs with the Bale money. They should have kept that DOF as his signings paid off overall after a settling in season.

im not sure thats true at all.

Koeman has worked with DOFs all his career so that ticks a box as he has shown he is suitable for working under Walsh (in theory).

He has vast experience as a winner as a player but has not the reputation of a serial trophy winner in a major league as a manager.

He does however have success in managing a first team under a DOF at southampton which has overperformed having been thoroughly gutted.

I wonder if Moshiri sees Walsh as installing the long term vision and changing most of the team through bringing in low cost additions as he did at Leicester and as weve seen with the Gana signing with Koeman doing what he did at southampton and overperforming.

Will these players be more in line with a koeman short term stay or the beginning of a new style/strategy envisioned by Walsh/Moshiri?

Have a look at the ages of the players we signed in the Summer.

Theres your answer.

Im not sure, in Southamptons case Les Reed has highlighted players who the manager has mentioned to him as being signed as they were already being monitored and the managers request provided the final tick needed....hes also named some who the manager was informed about and had little input with.

Also you see it at Real Madrid and so e other clubs too
Frightening.

Les Reed sold the players and Koenan acted as first team coach. He then recommended some signings and Reed said he had minimal input in others.

Southampton have a system where they appoint managers and sign/develop players to a certain profile....if theres a manager who has success and trophies he may not fit their system as well as someone like pochettino who did poorly at espanyol for example.
So Koeman is a good coach then?

I agree, it was arse over elbow the two appointments. More than that though I think there's a hangover from the old regime of Kenwright. If Moshiri wanted a true director of football or general manager then he should dismiss Elstone and hand Walsh his powers also if Elstone is the man holding the purse strings.

I'm sure Koeman wouldn't be bothered about one person doing the donkey work of the organisation that he'd have to do such as getting players over the line for their signature, co-ordinanting the board with the coach's views etc. (but he'd fight shy of any technical director role being created which demands an obedience to a particular style/philosophy/method).

I think this is an interesting point.

Southampton sacked Adkins despite how well they had done in his 2.5 years at the club and were currently doing at that time and brought in Pochettino. Was that because they felt that his persona and style of play would benefit them in the longer term--im sure it was (and in fact that was the reason they gave for sacking Adkins).

They state that they have the system in place which managers need to fit into and have extensive profiles on potential replacements. In this case, they already know or have a fair idea that the manager will prefer a certain playing style and type of player in line with their existing setup.

In this case, a technical director isnt needed as they appoint the manager to already fit this system with Pochettino, Koeman and Puel. I mean, Puel is such a strange appointment out of left field (like Pochettino was) that its clearly paying dividends and following a strategy.

However, we appointed Koeman prior to having anything like this in place, least of all a DOF. Koeman fit the system at Southampton very well (bar the complaints about youth and arguments with players) but as Walsh was hired later we dont know really the role of Walsh.

Is Walsh a monchi, Reed or similar authority figure who creates and dictates policy for strategy and development or simply someone who acts as another face to simply share information between departments....

Well, if you take Stekelenburg, he was signed prior to Walsh joining. In Williams I cant remember if he was signed before or after Walsh but it appears that the wheels were already in motion.

Bolasie looks to be a Koeman signing also and Gana was a Walsh recommendation. Calvert-Lewin file under Unsworth.

But, im not sure if going forward this will still be the case. Perhaps as some have stated, Walsh needs time to get his feet under the table and assess the squad(s) prior to making moves in Jan and summer.

I'm not sure how clear cut this is.

Zat, like you sadly, has no clue what hes talking about, he makes up stories in his own little head.

And yet Les Reed is quoted in the press as saying this. In other instances hes names players like Pelle as being someone Koeman has worked with before and recommended and it happens that Southampton have already been profiling him and Koemans is the final approval.

So Koeman is a good coach then?

It seems so, in Southamptons system and using the players brought in by Les Reed. He also did very well at Feyenoord which i think was a greater achievement. Not so much at other clubs with a different approach on the continent though.

The manager tells the scouts what type of player they want and then the scout gives them a few names and the manager picks 1.

Thats the way I SUSPECT it will happen and how it happened in the Summer.

It went like this, Koeman got Stickleback in early cos he trusts him and we needed a Keeper, the scouts were then told we needed another Keeper, Hart was looked at but jogged on cos hes a bellend, we probably made moves for other Keepers, (Begovic), but the price was either to much or the selling clubs jogged us on.

Walsh was hired and was probably told on his first day that Stones was going to be sold.

Koeman told Walsh he wanted 2 CBs, 1 CM, 1 ACM 1 ST and 1 Winger, plus some cover at RB, he was told not to buy players under the age of 25, cos they smell of failure.

Walsh then probably came to Ronny with the boy Gana, Ronny said pick him up cos he looks decent.

Williams and Bolasie were then signed, then we spent a few weeks acting like utter clowns until we had to panic loan 1 of the worst "strikers" in the league.

People dropped the ball all over the place and now im sure everybody is planning for a semi successful January window, if we are in touch in January we will spunk some money, if its looking grim we will save our money and gut the whole squad in the Summer.
