Realistic targets

Realistic targets include bosmans.. And there are a few free agents that might be interesting for us. Ball has been mentioned previously in a few threads as a backup LB.

In previous years we have been rumoured to be interested in Appiah as well. He's on a free and at 28 he might still have a few seasons left in him.. if he stays fit. I'm not saying he'd be a starter, but as a backup he'd do nicely I think.

There is another defender we might be going after as a backup CD. Lugano from Uruguay. He have CL experience with Fenerbache and have earlier in his career been awarded the best defender in SA. At 28 he isn't too old either and might be worth a shot.

I'm just scared we'll go after Viduka..

Apologies St.DomingosGringo it was juvenile of me to attack you like that.
The only two i dislike are him and pienaar, just my opinion on the guys. a few of my opinions may sound odd to some but i guess we are all entitled to see it differently.

You got a small k-nob or something .

so you dismiss the fact he tried to break turner's jaw by saying 'ah, leave him alone, he's young'.

Then you accuse me of ducking the question. don't be a fool all your life!!

He picked up a record 11 yellow cards before christmas for [Poor language removed] sake. He did this by gouging peoples faces and leaning his head into peoples faces, pushing and using every angular part of his body to inflict pain. I witnessed his shenanigans mainly at corners and free kicks around the box.

Simply put, I don't like him and you're a [Poor language removed]! now get back to the thread.

That's inspired. It's like reading a Jack London novel.

We need numbers to our squad. But at the same time the players we get need to be able to do their job for us, perhaps not going into the first 11, but be reliable backups against lesser teams and as subs.

LB: Ball 29.
RB: Seitaridis Greek, 28. Have played for Athletico Madrid these last seasons.
LM: Jerome Thomas 26, backup to Pienaar and if he get his career back on track a good find.
CM: Appiah 28

All are bosmans and available for a signing on fee and I feel all 4 could be good squadplayers for us. They might not be the first choises, but with our limited transferkitty getting these for nothing might be a good deal and they might be around for a few seasons as well since none are over 30

I really dont understand how we missed out on Sean Davis this summer. Bosman and a player Moyes valued at £6m and only a failed medical stopped his arrival. I think alarm bells started ringing when he wasn't on the radar.

what has happened to that taylor guy , i think he is finished at anderlecht , better than beckford,

michael ball is not good enough

steven appiah is a journeyman who only has making dosh as his interest.

they are on free's for a reason.

erm...did you realise that message was from 2009?!

Anyway, in terms of realistic targets for this Jan, i think it will all depend on who goes. If Johnny and Pienaar are off then we HAVE to get replacements. If not we will be utterly screwed.
In terms of realistic names....very hard to pick anyone decent i'm afraid.

Daniel Agger (Liverpool) – central defender, right back £6-8m

Has never caught the imagination of the squanderous Rafael Benitez. Would solve our central defensive problems short term and possibly replace Tony Hibbert at right back further down the line, should he seek more regular first team opportunities.
