mrb85 your right we are an after thought and my theory on that, is that it's all to do with the names of the two clubs if they where not named after the city they would not get the attention they get now, having the name Liverpool has been a great advantage to them. The way this and other councils have bent to there every whim is proof of this, does anyone one think that any Liverpool council for one minute would've let LFC leave the city to go Knowsley not a chance, but Everton, "oh ye no problems sorry to see you go but hey never mind sorry we can't find you a site". Liverpool need a site no problems you can have that park , planning permission ye you can have that to no worries, if they needed a site tomorrow or they would leave the city one would be found tomorrow you can bet your house on that. Rant over sorry but the favoritism shown to then is unreal, and remember we have hade two blues as head of the council in recent years.
Much truth in what you say, but, again, this bias has only come about because we allowed it to happen, by failing to sustain the superiority we came into the 70s with. Whilst we were happy to come and go as trophy winners, the RS became the first club to build a dynasty, one that lasted, bar our own interventions in the mid-80s, for nearly two decades. Winning European trophies capped it off for them and it was this international dimension to their success that sold them to the country and to our own council. This was waning, but then along came the once in a millenium outrageous fluke that was Istanbul -- and from that day onwards we were dead from the perspective of investors, media attention etc. Crowds that had dwindled to mid-30k for RS home games returned in such force, and supplemented by glory-hunters and a new breed of global fan, that they've sold out every PL game since.

On a general point, not bearing the name of your city doesn't seem to have hindered the likes of Benfica, Juventus or Aston Villa. And, peculiarly, not one team playing in the country's capital has 'London' in its name -- a massive comercial opportunity given the global attraction of English football for a Leyton Orient or a Charlton to become London FC!

I agree, it isn't scintillating but I think that, given time, and the right players, he could give us cause for optimism. We'll never know if we get rid of him
He's got one thing right lately, he's sorted out our defence. OK, Stones being fit again and Distin banished has helped, but it's still sorted. Always build from the back, right?

I think the difference between Everton and Utd and Liverpool is exactly this. We had good team but never a dynasty.

Chelsea are the closest team right now that could take the crown of those two teams as the biggest in the UK for this reason. You just get the feeling Mourinho is there to build a dynasty.

Don't think so. One or two more seasons and he's out
