Real Madrid’s new manager

Sacking the National Manager one day before the World Cup starts is absolute insanity no matter what has gone on. Should have been calm and professional and bit their tongues and waited till Spain's World Cup was over and then took whatever action is required and with no comebacks. They have made themselves look like scorned children and will be blamed for anything and everything that goes wrong in their campaign.

Ridiculous decision on the timing.

Lopetegui and Real would have looked pretty stupid if Spain did really badly in the WC under him and still he gets the job.

Lot of moves going on here - some so diabolical I cannot reveal them.

Why have they fired him, though?

negotiating with RM behind their back. still a crazy decision though.

The words that come to mind are: cut, spite, nose, your, off, face, to. But not necessarily in that order.

World's gone mad I tell thee.

Isn't that tapping up?

Wouldn't Madrid have to approach the Spanish FA before appointing him?

this is from BBC.. "Rubiales repeatedly and insistently stated the federation knew absolutely nothing about the negotiations until five minutes before the Bernabeu club sent a press release to reveal Lopetegui's appointment - he also confirmed he had asked for the announcement to be delayed, but the plea went unheeded."

so yeah it sounds like he was tapped up.

Well then surely the Spanish FA could hit them with a fine or ban of some sort?

He signed an extension and made verbal long term commitments and pledges to the Head of the Spanish FA.

2 weeks later he then informed the Head of the Spanish FA (by phone) that he was joining Real after the World Cup.

5 mins later he held a Real press conference announcing everything.

The issues are threefold;

1-- Commitments made and contract signed 2 weeks ago.

2 -- Did not inform the Spanish FA.

3-- The national team needs a manager who does not favour either Barca or Real players over one another. By agreeing to take the Real position he himself made his own position untenable.
