I went with white lights because she likes to load it with colorful ornaments and I didn't want it to be too much
Real trees cause a major fire risk if not watered as they dry out quickly. Also make sure you switch off your lights when not about, use the LED lights and no candles.

I have a plastic one because I'm a cheap arse but every few years treat ourselves to a real one, can't beat the smell.
