I've met Ray Wilson a few times, he used to drink in our local. Me as a young Everton fan came over and said 'did you win the World Cup' and he sat me down and told me the whole story of playing at that tournament. Lovely man, Fartown fan as well as I recall. I'm sure you'll all be glad to know everyone in Huddersfield is wishing him the very best and he's dearly loved over here.

I remember being at a game at Hendon FC, the amateur team I support

When I was a 13 year-old I was at a game at Hendon FC, the amateur team I often went to see. It was 1966 and when an announcement was made that the England team was I the crowd I looked over my shoulder and saw Gordon Banks standing just behind me. There was no sign of Ray, but when I left the game I saw him sitting on his own on the team coach. I waved like a lunatic but he didn't look up . That was sad but this is sadder. Good luck Ray, my dad and his mum contracted Alzheimers and I am probably headed for it, too. I'm just glad I was able to send this message of support first.

Funnily enough, my dad played against him, when he was late 40s early 50s in a Sunday League match. He's a quiet man but he apparently taught my dad a lesson on a number of occasions in the 90 minutes.

Never had the good fortune to see him play in the fleshmyself, but my older brother used to and still does talk about 'cultured Ray Wilson'.

Always sad when someone you/we know and respect is struck by such a horrible affliction.
As others have said, best wishes to Ray and his family.

Very sad. The finest left back I've ever seen. Passed with pinpoint accuracy.

I was at this Charity Shield game at Goodison in August '66:

It was reported last week sadly both Ray, Nobby Styles, and Martin peters all had the disease - Ray was a brilliant overlapping fullback for us years ahead of his time sad news from that 1966 World Cup squad!
