I only ask as there a few teams up here in Scotland where size really does matter, they win a lot of the youth trophies up to the age of 16 or so as they are bigger but then the more technical players from other clubs overtake them as footballers.
 

What's it like competing with the Red half for a limited pool of local talent? What can the Academy do to ensure that they choice the Blue half?
 

1) Is there a risk of young players having too much too soon and falling out of love with the game? (Money... WAGs... "celebrity" lifestyle)
2) Do the young players get any advice from the club about the role of agents? Particularly as some of the big talent agencies are now moving into sports, looking for "marketable" talent?
3) What's the one development/trend in the game that he thinks is bad for younger players? What would he like to see happen?
4) Do the regulations about homegrown players etc really make a difference?

Personally, I think the first poster's question about being in the shadow of Albert Hall is the best though.
 
......be interested in what you think of him, Bally. I dare say you won't be able to write an opinion on these pages but I found him a bit aloof. He was a hopeless player himself, Collegiate OB I think, you might want to ask him what level he played at himself. I suppose he will have some Rooney stories that might be of interest.

Did he retire or just leave, his time with us appeared to end abruptly so it would be good to know the reasons why.
 
The academy seems well able to develop full backs,centrebacks and midfielders but we have not produced an attacking player of note since Rooney(and he was exceptional) has this something to do with selection of players, coaching methods ?

think thats the hardest position to develop top players. plus you forgot anichebe who we got 6m quid for!:eek:

I've been to the match with him, he's a great guy and not all aloof. Loves to talk football and an all round good egg.

Sounds like the US youth setup; focus on winning at the expense of developing talent. Nobody cares how many Youth Cups Messi won, which leads to a useful question:

How do you balance development of academy players with the desire to win? How do you manage expectations when these goals don't seem to fit together?
