Ratings vs United

To be fair I agree with you. Its wasnt a shocking performance but it was a poor one against a very, very weak United side.

We backed off too much, we gave them room, we looked scared of them even though they were all younglings. It was a case of not wanting to lose rather than wanting to win. The occasion got to the players in the 1st half.

2nd half was an improvement with heavy spells of dominence with no really threat. Delivery into the box was very very poor.

Both sides were poor IMO but they had the excuse of being that they're young. They seemed freshier which was a given.

But like me dad said - its the result that mattered.
I do disagree with your ratings - I think Cahill disappeared untill he was pushed forward. Ossie looked knackered and minus a few sparks did nothing. Hibbert seems to have took a knock in confidence since Ashley Young tore him a new one.

And I'd also say Jags was below par. His concentration wondered and that was a peno he gave away IMO.

Vidic and Ferdinand were the best players on the park - they snuffed out anything and everything in the box.
Youth on their side i wonder what the average age of each team was ,on the pitch after e.t. any stattos on here ?

Just having a go at sharing my view on players' performance. Love the result, but really didnt think the team did well.

Howard 6 (shaky at times, saved 2 weak pens)

Hibbert 5 (kept a defensive role throughout)
Baines 6 (fair number of overlaps, crosses disappoint tho)
Jags 6 (solid enuf, nearly gave away a pen, had better days)
Lescott 6 (solid and not caught out of position much)

Neville 6 (as others have noted, had an above-average day by his standards, he's done well enuf against a former team)
Osman 5 (full of running, great heart, capable of much more attacking)
Sub: Rodwell 7 (steady short passes, breaks up attacks, gave a good foul that killed a MU counter dead - brilliant that one)(y)
Pienaar 7 (a lively threat, quickly closed down by opponents tho)

Fellaini 6 (put himself about well, still easily riled by opponents and ref, thank goodness for a wiser captain around him)
Cahill 6 (flashes of great shooting, otherwise a quiet day for him)
Saha 5 (happy to see him suit up, athletic display, but rarely threatens)

Sub:Vaughan 6 (troubled opponents with sheer presence and determination, wished Moyes will utilise him more)

P.S.: To be honest, Vidic was the outstanding individual in this game, his defending and leadership ensured MU stuck around for 120 mins.

Howard 7 - the 1st penalty he saved was Berba's fault, the 2nd was a very good save

Jags and Lescott 8 - Jags covered up for Hibbo's deficiencies, Lescott did for Cahill's defensive deficiencies

Baines 5 - the announcer was right he has trouble beating people one-on-one.

Hibbo 4 had trouble w/ Utds pace. luckily Wemback can't finish

Neville 6 - played well, give him props for keeping Fellani calmed down just enough that he wasn't red carded

Fellaini 6 got screwed by Riley alot. The 1st 10 minutes he was great. Played hard, needs to watch his temper though.

Rodwell 7 - played very well against a bunch of players his age

Osman - 5

Cahill 6 - played well the 2nd half.

Saha 4 - not his fault. He needs service. Thanks to Vidic he didn't get a sniff at the net. Plus for large stretches we resorted to hoof ball which isn't his game.

Peanut 7 sent endless crosses

Vaughn 7 - I forgot how much I love him. He always has that deer in the headlights look on his face and just runs around in circles like a kid. If he could stay healthy at worst he's a super sub.

It wasn't our best match. We defended well. I think we got nervous when Sir Alex introduced the lineup. All of a sudded Utd were the underdogs.
