listen to you, he's been here 3 bleeding months, we had to put up with two years of Martinez and Silva stinking the place out
You don't think Martinez and even Silva had a better initial 3 month run? And you reckon they would both have held on their roles until the end of the seasons they were sacked in with a run like the one we're going through?

Yes but all the stories this morning are about the manager needing time and injuries derailing the season. Moshiri, who shoulders a great deal of blame for our current haphazard approach, is the one making those statements.
Yes well the board aren't going to sack themselves so if there's changes it will likely be Benitez or Brands or both who go because that's just how it works. The press articles and the fans are very much blaming the board though Benitez isn't saving them from that or working as a scapegoat.

True, but are there better managers out there? Probably is, but could we draw them to the club?
Moshiri has proven he is willing to pay big bucks to managers (made Koeman one of the highest paid in the league, a washed-up has-been Rafael is on a reported £8m). Money talks. There's no doubt in my mind Moshiri's wallet will be able to attract whomever he wants.

We have eight games in the league following Boxing Day that will relegate us or save us. Burnley, Villa, Soton, Leeds, Brighton, Norwich and the Geordies twice. It's that run of games Benitez must be thinking about just over the horizon. Only one of those teams - Brighton - is presently in the top half of the table.

Five wins and a draw from those and Premiership safety is assured. Alternately, a run like the one we're on and you can start planning away days in the championship.

The key thing now is Moshiri. Does he hold his nerve and leave Benitez in charge for this upcoming make or break period? Or does this run of futility assume a life of it's own - which means in a series of early 2022 potential six pointers we'll be rolling out Dunc, Unsy and the ball kid as the managerial team again?

That we've backed ourselves into this corner and are facing choices like this speaks volumes in itself. This club is as close to the edge as it's been since Barmby missed that last day penalty, and Dublin put it in the net a minute later. Scarily, as the arl fella pointed out today, we might have fit the noose around our necks so well there's no slipping out of it.
Yeah we're in dire straights alright mate. Oh and well done on the Demons brilliant grand final win.;)

He asked Jim White to tell our fans that Benitez won't be sacked, that he needs time, we've had loads of injuries and that in the second half of the season we will be better. The issue for me mate is that he said it in a text in reply to the text Jim White had sent him about Benitez's position. He should have ignored Jim White and made a statement to the fans directly.
If true then he's made a statement that we need to hold him to.

If Benitez stays, there must be an improvement

Second half of the season we only got about 23 points from the 19 games (something like that I haven't checked the specific amount). It wasn't great, over a full season you'd finish about 15th on that form.

You have dips in form. You can't just split it up into chunks and say "if that carried on, we'd end up here". You look at it as a whole.

By April last season we were
3 points from 5th with a game in hand.

By April last season we were 6 points from 5th with a game in hand.

Overall we still finished in quite a poor position though. Saying that we'd all be made up to finish 10th the way this embarrassment of a season is going.

Just end it FFS.

Do we really want to be in the bottom 3 before we fire him and then needing these gutless set of players to grow a heart and a pair of bollox for a relegation fight.

He will be fired within a month from now 100% so why wait for 3-4 games to pass us by which leaves us less games to get the sufficient points total.
This, all day. When Koeman & Silva were fired we were obviously circling the plughole, but we certainly weren't out of touch with the teams above us and the road to safety was quite doable. The danger with this one is that a bit of daylight may soon appear between the bottom 3 (assuming it includes us) and the other 17, which makes the task so much harder for whoever comes in. Not for the first time, I really can't see where the next point is coming from as things stand, so they need to move quickly with this.
