Would you be happy to sell two of our big stars if it meant it gave us money for a new stadium?

Yep, the OP should have specified whether or not you were ever allowed to buy new players again.no.
what's the point in a new stadium if the team isn't good enough to perform in it?
Yes I would. Depending on if it was a good stadium of course, and ideally a redone Goodison. We could be great this season and still nothing, then this season is gone and quickly forgotton, a stadium would be forever.

But if we win nothing this season surely we'd stand a better chance of winning something with all our star players in the squad next season.
Maybe the new stadium would increase revenue to allow to get better players.
Maybe but a new stadium alone won't automatically make us some sort of financial powerhouse and you'd realistically not have a strong squad for at least 5 or more years. God knows what could happen in the mean time.

Or we could do a Chelsea, or we could be like Everton circa 2009, I thought we'd kick on but we didn't.
On the other hand let's say you're right, we do go on to win a couple of Cups. I still think we'd fail to maintain a push into fighting regularly for the CL and regular Cup campaigns year in year out without a new stadium and all that goes with it. I think the gamble of perhaps not winning a Cup or two is worth it.
