That the act of putting up a flag should be characterised as hatefully territorial, and I was wondering how that holds up in the case of the many rainbow flags in Brighton?

Haven't really thought about it. I was answering a post about flags in Northern Ireland.

If you live in Bootle the flags are the tip of the iceberg here, there's all sorts of anti-Muslim graffiti, EDL graffiti, swastikas etc. It's not about national pride whatsoever it's about xenophobia.

Don't agree with putting flags up as it's a safety hazard but the fact is if I put up a LGBT flag, a trans flag, a Palestine flag or an Everton flag it'd get taken down straight away. Sadly the councils are too afraid of the reactionary racist rabble.

Because the government would rather spend money on supplying parts for F35 jets, spend money on surveillance flights for Israel in the Middle East etc. It's a government bought and paid for by warmongers and a horror show of polluters, capitalist and imperialist vultures.
