Preview button

We upgraded the forum software from 2 to 2.2

As part of this upgrade, they forum software developer has "improved" the message editor.

With regards to the preview button, they explain the below;

The preview in 2.2 works exactly the same as it did in 2.0 - it renders the post as it will appear once submitted.

It just does it in the same editor window rather than a separate panel.

So basically, the difference now is the preview button shows you the preview in the same window rather than on a separate panel.

I personally think the preview button is now pointless (there's actually an option now to turn it off), because the post in the message box is now pretty much identical to what the post will be.

The only thing I can see so far that isn't shown in the message box is when you copy and paste a tweet. If you do that, you can click preview to actually see the tweet

Main use of it for me is to check embeds work properly. Twitter, youtube, etc

Kind of weird they've added an unnecessary step; you have to click preview to see if the embed works, and then click it again to go back to the editor if you need to change anything.

That's now the only reason as far as I can tell. I expect that'll go soon as embeds will one day show realtime.

They also argue they actually removed a step. Instead of a preview opening another tab, it now opens in the same editor.
