Preparing for Europe

Does anyone else get the impression Martinez is more concerned with Europe than the league this year? Every pre season game he mentions preparing for Europe. That's fine but surely we should be preparing for the league too?

Does he see the europa league as a cup we could win and therefore gain champions league, which would allow us to sacrifice positions in the league?

Have an awful feeling we won't be trying hard in the league cup again due to squad sizes again :(
 

I think the team set up for the league is clear in his head, the Europa league I feel is were he wants to show how adaptable we can be with free flowing beautiful football played the continental way . That's just my guess anyway.
 
Let's wait and see and enjoy the ride.

If you say you have an awful feeling that the league cup is going to be neglected, surely that's countered by the fact that you think we'll have a good go at Europe.

Although I'd be happy with either, I'd rather win the Europa League.
 
Don't really give a toss about the League Cup but it'll give a chance to blood some youngsters.

Historically, we've never done well in LC ......... still blame Frank Lampard Snr for all our pain :(

I've felt for years we seem to perform half heartedly in the league cup early doors so as to allow us time off in the week. It's a trophy we could so easily win but I get the feeling Moyes and roberto have just seen it as an annoyance rather than a trophy

But don't we get a bye from the early round because of Europe?

Yeh from the second into the third round. It's usually the third round where we come unstuck. It's a shame because we could easily have won this competition if we tried.

But we can win the Europa League and get CL if we try even harder.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love any trophy, League Cup included but if we've waited a while for European football, it'd be folly to forsake it for the Milk Cup.

True, I just hate it when we get knocked out so early when I know we can do better. Most would be made up if we won it
 
Europa is a bigger deal than the League Cup. Much bigger. The rewards are much bigger, too.

No contest which I'd like us to prioritise of the two. There's always next year for the League Cup, but Europe is a bitch to get into each season, especially from the Premier League.

Winning the Europa could be transformative for us.
