Poppies on England shirts

Apparently, the FA wanted to have a poppy on the England shirt for the Spain game next Saturday. FIFA say no! Cant change a shirt design during a season apparently.

A lad on the radio suggested poppy style armbands instead. Thought that was a good idea. Pretty daft rule from FIFA though.

Not really, a political statement worn on a shirt however thoughtful isn't correct on a football shrirt.

Exactly, even though I dont see the poppy as a political statement, can understand other opinions. That is why the poppy type armband seems a decent compromise.

And with "captain" like John Terry, and the FA backing him, it's almost contempt to piss FIFA off, as bad as they are like.

Agree with this. It's a bullshit turn of events in football. I mean, what did we used to do before this stunt took hold a few seasons back? Oh yeah: respectfully observe the dead from past conflicts on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

I dont need any British footballer or their mates Carlos Kickaball and Senor Fancy Dan showing me how to do that, thanks very much.

it is a great gesture to do it, if fifa say no i guess we should respect it however shabby the descision is. fifa are bent as feck anyway - hardly a body to look to comand respect.

Whether it should be worn or not is up to the FA. They should tell FIFA to sod off and just wear it anyway. If FIFA fine them they should refuse to pay it and again tell them to sod off. FIFA makes money off the back of England and co and FIFA are a bunch of crooks. It's time we took the game back.....

bit of both on this one, i like the paying respects business and despise any bloody decision FIFA's corrupt body make, however i do agree with Davek on this one that we dont need to see multi millionaire spoilt footballers wearing them. Means more for the crowd to wear them, and also if we do wear them then we dont really have a argument against any charity advertising (poppys for British Legion)

I just think it's bull on FIFA's side. These kinds of rules in most places are ridiculous. Don't see why we can't have it, it's not like it's a complete change of shirt. But yeah, the armband with a poppy on sounds good.

But it's only football (not meant in a bad sense) so I don't think it's necessary, they're probably not all doing it to remember, they're just trying to be respectful so I guess it's not bad if it's not allowed.

It should be down to england whether we want to honour our dead or not, not FIFA. Who are they to decide what we put on our shirts (of course within reason) when it's something as important to us as this. Political correctness gone bonkers AGAIN.
