Plebgate..

Good. Much as I think offing Tory MP's should be a national pastime, it does look like Mitchell was stitched up.

The met needs disbanding and rebuilding from the bottom up. Obviously not practical or possible, but it's a horrible, rotten, corrupt institution that needs sorting out.

Same as all 3 major political parties I guess.

It smells like one of those stories that will have a lot of chapters. Apparently C4 suggested that the memo writing pc intimated that others may be involved.......

IIRC I read something yesterday suggesting he'd been stabbed in the back by his own deputy.

The memo from the pc was sent to the deputy. He had no option but to bring it to the attention of the powers that be.... But the fact that he apparently disliked his boss gives it another little twist. It will be fascinating watching how this ends up..

What I find odd is that the whip admitted he swore at the police but the issue has been over the word 'pleb' . If I swore at the cops I'd expect to there to be a risk I'd be arrested and as a member if the government I'd think resignation would be a likely option . It seems that that wasn't enough for the coppers and that they've sought to 'over egg' the whole incident and as a result its all come crashing on top of their heads .

It all seems a strange one but their is no doubt the police will come out of it very badly & that'll be their own fault whilst Mitchell seems to have played the circumstances pretty well.

I have been arrested for saying a lot less and not actually swearing at a copper. I dont understand all the scandal of using the word pleb, the swearing would be enough usually for a public order offence ?

Agreed - he should still have resigned / been sacked anyway.

Also the extra "non-present" police witness may be discredited (or not as remains to be seen) but that does not invalidate the account of the officers on duty.

That's what i mean mate and that's why the Tories have played their hand really well. I think pleb was toxic as joe public can see themselves swearing but pleb is the kind if word that same joe public would associate with grandiose Tories looking down from the top table. However like you and as I said I think it's amazing that telling a copper to '[Poor language removed] off' (or similar ) has now been dismissed as nothing when a footy fan or lad with a few pints in him would have almost certainly found himself sat in a cell.

This will be near the truth of the matter, I think. Coppers trying to copper-fasten something on when they had no need to - he was already in enough shit with his initial comments.

Beware the Eton mafia when they see one of their own brought down to size.

Still, I dont think this is to the Tory's advantage. The Met are a wounded beast and that cops federation are a powerful force. I dont think any political party wants that lot briefing against them and searching for dirt. Cameron et al are prodding a stick into a hornets nest here.

Exactly. As much as I dislike the Tories, this was obviously a 'don't [Poor language removed] with us' thing from the Met. They were always comfortable under the conservatives until this government started swinging the axe. Personally I think they're out of control and it was good old T Blair who really gave them carte blanche. They seem far more enthusiastic about beating students into comas, wrestling tourists to the ground for taking photos and kettling disabled people and pensioners than actually trying to stop chavs burning, murdering and looting in the riots.
