It's a room 101 thing for me... I get really annoyed by it. I haven't got a problem with actual photographs; it's just people taking pictures of themselves to fish for likes and approval that I hate.

Maybe I'm just turning into a miserable old sod.

I'm with you Larry, can't stand selfies etc, people taking pics of their food etc. What's the point other than narcissism and self promotion. Just a complete and utter nonsense.

Photographs are sound.

Taking a vain picture of YOURSELF posing like a trout and then posting it on social media so people like it and tell you how great you look isn't.

It's a thing as old as time though, innit?

400 years ago all the rich vain people would hire an artist to draw a picture of their face and then put it up in their gallery in a git big gold frame.

Is a selfie any more vain than the mona lisa? At least the fella taking the selfie hasn't hried bleeding stephen hawking to hold his phone for him.

The Mona Lisa isn't a 'self-portrait' but I get your point. Surely 'van Goughs' self portrait would be the ultimate in self pitying selfies...

Mona Lisa, she hired the worlds leading scientist to make a picture of her face.

He drew it cos she gave him money to do it. It's the same impulse as a selfie. I want a git shiny picture of my face I can show to everyone.

Only it wasn't as easy to get one back then.

Say what you like about the invention of the phone camera but at least it's meant we have our scientists doing actual science and not photographing lindsay lohan for weeks straight.
