1) Define Lately down a bit - This century or last
2) Do kids school plays count?

If '2' then last week the granddaughter gave a bravura performance as half of the Pushme - Pull you in Dr Doolittle

A star is born

What is the best play you have seen lately?
I'm currently awaiting for our affable chairman to get better so that I can see what overproduced, flamboyant, superfluous production his theater company puts out next before I answer this question. His renditions of 'Evita' and 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' literally blew the critics away!

Just the One - with Peter O'Toole as Jeffrey Bernard

Mrs C and myself were at the Lyric last week to see The Man Who Swallowed a Dictionary, this is a one man show about the life of David Ervine, the former Progressive Unionist Party leader. If it is on anywhere near you I recommend you go, it is very entertaining. People get the impression that the theatre has to be high art, Shakespeare and the like, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In Northern Ireland there is plenty of plays that are funny, entertaining and relevant to ordinary people. I have never seen a high brow play, Mrs C would think I have taken leave of my senses if I suggested going to watch a classic play but she enjoys the ones we do see. Everyone should go and watch a play at least once, I think you will be surprised at how much you enjoy it, but pick something that is relevant to you.
