Even moreso than that mate

It's no longer a one off thing, the rs - qualified for the CL once in the past 7 seasons now, missed out on European qualification twice, scraped in as cup winners one other time (when they would hav emissed out on league position), only got past the last 16 once - this season in any of those years, where embarresed the one season they got to the CL

Man United - missed out on CL qualification 2 out the last 3 seasons, coupled with being embarressed in europe during that time

Chelsea - missed out completely on Europe for the first time

Meanwhilst - Spurs, qualified each and every one of the last 7 seasons for Europe now, including 2 times for the CL

Without anyone in the media even acknowledging it, Spurs have moved massively ahead of the rs already over the past 7 seasons, United are in a very precarious boat right now of becoming another liverpool - certainly if mourinho is anything like third season at Chelsea it could prove catastrophic for them for the next 5-10 years, Chelsea are heading into the complete unknown as well, an owner who has stopped spending like he used too, a team in a shambles and a brand new manager fresh from international football back to a club game he hasnt worked in for a whilst in a country he has never worked in

Leicester can be written off by them as a blip, spurs are one of the top 4 clubs now - no doubt about it in my mind - but west ham will be the one who scraed them more than anything this year, came very close to knockign both city and united out the CL and unlike leicester have london and the stadium to make it not a one off thing

Hammers may very well emerge as the spectre at the feast for City etc. over the next decade.

If ever a club was trussed up and ready for a Mansoor or Abramovich style takeover it is they.

I don’t expect Moshiri to be some kind of instant savior and catapult us back into the top 6. Look at the landscape: Title contenders in: (1) City, (2) United, (3) Spurs, (4) Chelsea, (5) Arsenal. So that’s 5 not yet even taking into consideration the competitive (6) Liverpool, (7) Leicester. (8) West Ham. So now if you were to add ourselves (9) and Southampton (10) into the mix that’s literally half of the league. Point being made is that England is jam packed and the TV rights money – imo – actually hurts us because it just makes the league more and more competitive due to all clubs now having money to burn (and not just us!). The league is almost at a grid lock and it’s going to take some pretty amazing efforts to gate crash our way through to even 6th spot.

Bottom line: This will not be some Manchester City type instant success story - but it should solidify us as a top 8 club for years to come. Alas its hard to substantially improve when everyone else is improving also. Thoughts?
Good post mate ... The choice of our new manager could be the biggest decision in the clubs history . It is so important that we choose the right man who can attract players and also play the right brand of winning football . We also need to act quickly though to stop all of the speculation regarding our players moving on and also to stop some of the comments coming out of said players camps. I am quite excited at the moment for the future and feel that any players that don't want to be there should be sold to the highest bidder so our new manager can rebuild a squad that will all be proud to wear the blue jersey . I think Mr Moshri will do this correctly and will make the right calls . Here's hoping !!!!

Understand your feelings about the supporters may not have much patience if we don't fly out of the blocks but I don't think that will pan out for the most part.
I think it was the clear lack of plan b in the overwhelming face of common sense under Martinez that boiled over.
If the new manager gets it wrong now and again I don't see the masses jumping on him as long as we see potential. It was the apathy with trying to do the same thing week in week out that drove people nuts the season just gone. We couldn't take it any longer.
A new man with fresh impetus and drive will be forgiven the odd blip, no worries.
Chin up, chest out.

I Agree. But 5 years ago we still had Bill 'survive' Kenwright calling the shots now the power has shifted we should all be positive. Moshiri will take us to be among the elite again, yes it will take time but for me he has a fantastic platform to start from. Our new manager hopefully is named by next weekend and then we start to put in place our targets for the next 3-5 years

but if half of the division will compete for the title like you mention then it's not a once in a blue moon feat is it because that means 10 teams have a chance of winning it, which must mean about 6-7 new title winners apart from the normal of Chelsea, Manchester Utd, City and Arsenal to a lesser degree.
But they have the spending power of any other of those ten teams where as Leicester 'just' avoided relegation the season before and there squad cost only 25mil, the value of one player from the said 10 teams. Can you really see Sunderland winning the prem next season?

but Leicester didn't win it because of money, they won it because there squad had the best balance.

no Sunderland won't win it because they don't have a great squad, it's unbalanced and lacking quality. But that's not to say on 4-5 years if they get the right signings and have top youth coming through that they couldn't challenge and that goes for anyone.

the days of the top 4 being a closed shop are long gone imo, sure we may still see the likes of Chelsea, City win it but there will be a couple of teams I reckon each season who will surprise people when they finish in the top 4.

Also the season before, yeah Leicester did just about avoid relegation but check out their results in the final run in, they hit some amazing form with 10 games to go and carried that momentum through to last season.

I know and that's what I said, a bargain basement squad/relegation certs.

With Leicester City winning the Premiership might just be on the cusp of a change. TV money will allow "lesser" clubs some clout in the transfer market. We have seen ow one or two good buys can kick start a team, e.g. West Ham.
That is why we need to get the appointment of a new manager right. The next few years and probably longer depend on it. He needs to bring some success but can't put the club into hock to achieve short term success.
While I am concerned it seems to be talking an age to sort a manager out and the absence of one is, no doubt, having a negative effect on things I am happy we seem to be putting some thought into it.
Get the new manager correct and success will follow, we can't afford another Martinez.

I'd be happy enough just to see evidence that the new regime is trying.

Three years without a first team purchase wasn't trying.

Kirkby wasn't trying.

Kitbag and Chang weren't trying.

Letting managers and senior players dictate the club's ambitions wasn't trying.

Start putting the effort in to make the club as competitive as it can be, and the rest will follow in due course.
