pfft... Moyes shat the bed on deadline day and signed Stracq sight unseen
He'd given up at that stage, unless his notorious 'background checks' didn't pick up on Drenthe's 'leenings'

The fella promoted himself for years as some kind on transfer market Rainman but he brought in some slop all the same

Every single manager in world football has bought tosh at some point, its when you CONSTANTLY buy tosh like Rodgers, thats when you should worry.

Moyes, & or a combination of people at the club, got it right more often than not, but his il Duce self-caricature with the lights left on at 3 am in Finch Farm is all a bit urban myth.

I suspect it wasn't all his own work, given the monumental balls he made of it at Utd.

Probably, cos its unlikely he went over to watch him.

I think most overseas players are bought with the manager watching vids.

But that doesnt mean thats ALL we do, we have a VAST scouting network and im fairly sure players are watched numerous times by scouts before the manager gets a look at them.
This. I'm absolutely sure the boss will get a full report from one of his scouts. Then, if it's not feasible to go and see the player live he may then use vids to back up the scouts opinion.

Deffo didn't go and watch Koldrup 15 times did he as surely he would have realised he couldn't head the bloody ball lol

At the time almost everything I read in neutral rags about Van Der Meyde and Klordup was positive. Udinese did finish 4th with him in defense the prior season.

I don't think this has happened for a very long time, as Moyes was absolutely notorious for watching players live many times before signing them. He famously watched Lescott something like 10+ times before opting to sign him, hence the 'Dithering Davie' nickname.

Preston North End supporters called Moyes 'Dithering Dave' long before he came to Everton, but you're right, his dithering at Everton just confirmed that they were correct !
