Who pushes who on?

There’s been talk recently of the atmosphere at Goodison being less than encouraging for a team in poor form, and @Adam-GOTTV and I have mentioned it a few times on the @GrandOldTeam podcast - are the crowd responsible for getting the team riled up or is the onus on the players to gee the crowd up?

For me it’s entirely reciprocal, with one feeding off the other.

I think Steven Pienaar hits the nail on the head in this short clip;

I think it depends on how the team are doing, at the minute most fans are turning up expecting us to be terrible so when the game starts that way the atmosphere is flat. It's up to the players to then lift the crowd by putting some effort in and looking like they're up for it.

When the team are performing better (I know it has been a while since this happened!), then the crowd will usually be bouncing before the game and the players feed off this.

The fans always back the players initially.
It is then up to the player to maintain the trust.

Pienaar is of a different philosophy to some of those that wear the Everton shirt these days.
Our squad has too many mercenaries, who are probably not good enough even when they display effort.
So when they display lack of effort as well, the fans will not take prisoners.

We got the best from Pienaar because he loved playing for Everton.
We now have players and it means nothing being here. They need to go.

I think it starts with the players, then the crowd feed off it. The brand of football has to be good though, if the fans come along expecting to be entertained because they know they have a good/willing team, the atmosphere can be good from the first whistle.

When I'm flipping the burger's in McDonald's and my boss drags me in for incompetents I'm going to demand I need 40,000 lads cheering me on. Unconditionally.

The only players I feel any sort of connection with are Coleman, Pickford, Rooney, Kenny, Davies and Walcott.

The rest can [Poor language removed] off.

The fans are worth a goal start at home...

The team need to make the most of the fans support & get them cranked up right from the kick off...

Use the fans to your advantage by playing nice attractive attacking football...

The fans will then reciprocate with loud shouts of approval & chanting all through the game...win/win...

The thing is we have had a decent record at home, so crowd atmosphere can’t be blamed for lack of results. Away from home when the travelling support is more vocal in support the players have been worse, not competing or showing bottle to play any proper football. So I think the fans get some unfair criticism

I admire his attitude mate but I associate Everton with better, to see a player of his ability (lack of) playing every week makes me sad more than anything else. Not his fault.

Yeah his attitude is boss, he is very limited though. Shame really as he absolutely loves playing footy, always looks like he’s having the time of his life. He’s like a fan that’s won a competition.
