Was thinking this morning, after our last few league wins and all the teams below us being utter pony, we are pretty much guaranteed to be in premier league next season.
Made me ask, " will Martinez start planning for next season now?". He isn't newly appointed in the summer(2014), their is no world cup (2015) & it isn't as if we have to plan for a champions league push late on in the season.
Should we be planning our transfer targets and giving game time to players that will be here next season and working on different formations etc. Even if it is for the likes of say Stones. Rest him for the last 4/5 games of the season which takes away the "burnout" if he goes to the u21 tournament and see if browning has what it takes as the loan window has passed now. What about Besic? Surely Gareth Barry wont be first choice every game next season, same goes for Howard.
Garbutt given a few games at left back and actually seeing if this myth of baines in centre mid will work? Plus a run in the side may make garbutt sign a new contract.
A few minutes for the likes of Ledson, Kenny, Henen & Galloway even if it is to just get their names out their for potential loans next season.
Does he give the likes of Barkley, McCarthy, Lukaku, Baines, Coleman (not all of them obviously) a bit of an early holiday and say come back ready for next season fresh & fit
does Martinez know what players he wants to keep here next season and who he wants to ship out? Would their be any point playing the likes of Alcaraz? Does he know who his transfer targets are for the summer? Surely now is the chance to get in their early. Does he want to keep McGeady? Atsu? Lennon?. I think he knows mirallas is going and it might be possible we wont see him again this season.
I understand every league position makes you around 1.5 million but surely if we plan early (which I believe we didn't do last summer which was our downfall) it would help towards a higher league place next season
