Local media said the downed plane had just left the city's La Guardia airport and was trying to return after a possibly colliding with a flock of birds.

The A320 jet was destined for Charlotte airport in North Carolina.

There are no reports of injuries.

Just saw it on the news hopefully its nothing sinister, early reports are that it flew in to a bird, which has to be said is a bit werid!

Hopefully no injuries!

Bird Flu was the real cause. Sorry about that. Hope it is nothing serious otherwise i wont be able to forgive myself for that lame joke.

[Poor language removed] me every one got off alive.......

What a pilot landing in water...!!!

He flew through a flock of birds, which cut out both engines. And the pilot chose the river to make his emergency landing in, instead of a residential area. Top man that under pressure.

the general rule of thumb when ditching a commercial jet into the water is that everyone on board dies.

this guy knew what he was doing.

I read somewhere that the pilot started out in the US airforce - from what I've read about other miraculous plane survival stories - where the pilot pulls of incredible crash landings - this has always been a constant, military training in the background.

Also check this one out:

he landed the plane without any [Poor language removed] controls. whatsoever . bar the throttle.

2003 Baghdad DHL attempted shootdown incident - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

apparently got the inspiration from this:

United Airlines Flight 232 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

honestly, pilots get blamed when things go wrong often, but when they are ditching a 100 tons of plane into the water and no-one dies or landing planes without any flight controls - it boggles the mind.

I've just read the story and seen the pictures in the paper. Pilot did an amazing job. Deserves every praise for pulling that one off. What a hero.

kudos to the ferries and tug boats in the vicinity that immediately came to the rescue.

apparently the current was real strong in the hudson and the water was at -7 degrees.

could have easily drowned or died of hypothermia if it wasn't for a great rescue job.

thankfully it happened in the day time.
