Little bit about his career then how coming to Everton is one of the best things to happen to him, gave him something new. Loves Moyes, both are workaholics. The Ronaldo tackle probably swayed the hardcore blue fans to like and respect him, showed where his loyalties lie. Fans have been great. Talked about his disabled daughter, how he copes etc.

Great captain. Great person.

He certainly proved me wrong, I honestly didn't think he had what it takes to be a consistent performer for Everton. I thought he lacked the ability to go with his undoubted leadership qualities.

But his form last season was excellent, in the holding role especially. He broke up play, held his position and used the ball with intelligence and accuracy. His use of the ball is underrated, he was actually pulling the strings towards the end of last season. He's shown composure that I honestly didn't know he had.

Excellent captain, great man and more importantly, a very capable player.

Just shows how much more managers know than 'real fans'. He hasn't got 59 England caps and over 400 games in the top flight for just being a utility player.

I sat on the next table to him and his family in a restaurant a few years ago (pre-Everton) and he was a nice, polite humble chap. Signed an autograph for some kid without bother. I was ear-wigging to their conversation like a proper snide and they were just decent people.

Liked him ever since.
