Am i on my own in thinking that Pienaar should have had a pen. the media didnt even give it a second look but decided to concentrate on manures pen shout from which i believed he tripped over his own foot.
but there was a penalty claim that nobody has mentioned.
last week against villa lescott tried to clear the ball in our box , the ref said high boot and gave villa a pen.
well yesterday , evra done the exact same thing in the exact same area of the pitch , around the 67th minute (i think) , and i think it was cahill who almost got a boot in the face.
why was this a pen the week before but not yesterday ?
also i thought there was a case for rafael's yellow being a straight red.
baines would have been through on goal and im sure rafael was the furthest back man utd player.
On German TV they made a bit more of it, but I could see it going either way. They were hammering Riley as well for his inconsistency - letting stuff like that and the Jags incident go but then blowing for petty "fouls" that nobody could spot. (They have a vision of the Premiership still being filled with Nat Lofthouse-style challenges on the goalkeeper.)
The ref was poor overall. I think the only saving grace was that he was equaly **** for both teams.
The Welbeck one was a definate pen. Yeah there was only a small amount of contact but running at that speed thats all it takes. The small contact made him kick his own heel and go over. Very simialr to a lot of AJ's penatly shouts that were never given. I reckon there's no doubt that it would have been given if it hadn't been for Moyes mind games earlier in the week.
Equally Tim Cahill did nothing wrong when he got pulled up when clean through. Vidic commited, cahill spun him and the ref blew. Tim could either have ran straight through or squared it to the other player bombing forward... they had a player back but it was still 2v1.
i think things evened themselves out during the course of the match but it was still an inept performance by an official who seemed to constantly be trying to make up for bad calls by making more bad calls to even it out.
Nah, shoulder to shoulder and Pienaar is very lightweight and the ball was never in his controll. Never a peno.
I do like those De Silva brothers though. They're only like 17-18 but are great going forward, and for their size are very strong. Ossie and Pienaar never got past them once from what I remember.
That's only because Osman and Pienaar very rarely play wide, they always come centrally. When Baines overlapped The more experienced Da Silva was all over the place.

But Pienaar can get past people, its how he draws alot of fouls against him. Everytime he tried to get past one of em, the lad just nicked it off him and was away. I thought Pienaar's experience would have the upper hand over the Rafeal.
Ossie didnt bother running at anyone yesterday.
I agree Baines did get by him a few times and he was all over the show, but he's very young. And for small lads they are very strong...unless it was because Pienaar and Ossie are so weak.
Pienaar can go past people but that's not his strength, he does his best stuff cutting inside, that's where he usually takes people on. He rarely faces up to a fullback and beats him one on one. He's a right footed centre midfielder playing on the left wing, it's expected to be honest.
I thought Pienaar played very well yesterday and his movement fooled Rafael Da Silva quite a few times, letting Baines use the space in behind. Sadly his final ball was lacking.
I thought Fabio played well though. There both good young players, there's no doubt about that.
