that's a very stupid thing to say. Bit like how some think all black people are criminals because they saw one on TV once mugging a nice old white lady.

I lived half-a-year in Czech Republic, and spent some time in the poorer districts of Prague....and nowt wrong happened. The locals are very fine people. Also know Serbs, Russians and Ukranians...all have hearts in the right place.

My own experiences with criminals in general the nationalities were french, irish, english and german. Not seen an Eastern European do anything wrong yet.

Saying that, I agree with most people that the Romany beggers you get in the touristy sections of big cities are an ugly people (inside as well as outside)...I wish they had more pride and integration.

Have you ever encountered the Romany swines doing the deaf scam with the sponsor form? Fukcers pretending to be deaf and mute to scam money, pretty low that.
Saw sh!t loads of people falling for it though, had to tell a few people to swerve them.

There's no telling what's in a man's wallet: could've been all kinds of important stuff outside of cash & cards: keys, sentimental photos, notes of paper with crucial info. If a man loses a wallet full of important stuff like that, and an idiot of a pickpocket only takes the cash anyway, then it's just a stupid stupid situation.

This happened to my ex. In town someone robbed her purse from her bag somehow. She had photos of her Mum, and special coins that her Mum had given her from the day she was born. Her Mum was no longer with us, so my Ex was distraught.

On a slightly related topic. Are the people who knock on your door asking you to give money to various charities through standing orders scam artists? We seemed to get them a lot for different charities at one point. It was freezing the first time and the girl was amazing looking. She gave the speech and all that and then wanted me to sign a form and give my bank details etc. to her so she could take £3 a month for deaf kids from my bank. Like I’m going to let some random walk around the streets with my bank details, my address, my signature etc.

She gave the speech and all that and then wanted me to sign a form and give my bank details etc. to her so she could take £3 a month for deaf kids from my bank. Like I’m going to let some random walk around the streets with my bank details, my address, my signature etc.

I think a lot of them are legit but you can never be sure, dishing out bank details to anyone is a definite no no though. They get paid for doing it so they can be quite persistent - one of them tried to frog march me to my bank once and I proper saw my arse.

To be honest I've never experienced these beggers doing anything illegal. It's just their begging face I can't stand. That pained woe-is-me expression, which immediately switches to contempt when they see you're not gonna give them any money.

Some of these people are better actors than those in soapland.

They're all as bad as each other. Even legal charities are scummy. The money they raise is 90% for 'administrative expenses'...meaning you're paying to keep them in a job. The actual help they do is mostly irrelevant. Charities that really do work tend to be funded by superwealthy benefactors (see the good work being done by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet), as they can afford the admin costs to be a fraction of the actual 'good work'.

But the likes of me and you giving our few quid away to a leaflet with a picture of a starving child doesn't actually do anything noteworthy, as the ratio of admin-costs:good-work is a lot higher.
