"Lead by example"

I can't recall a stand out, 'man of the match' performance from 'our' Nev.

Most underwhelming Everton Captain in my lifetime. Not good enough to command centre midfield, and he's on his way out at right back to Coleman. Should have let him have his wish in January and shipped him off to sit in the reserves at Spurs and gave the armband to Cahill or Jags - Why give him a new contract on parity high earner?

Pointing and sound bytes aside, he doesn't deserve it.

No. We need a new captain. Someone who really does lead by example. I'm thinking Jags. Or even possibly Fellaini.

I'd have no problem with him staying on as more of member of the backroom staff than as a player. Moyes needs to phase him out the first team, and sooner rather than later i'd hope

And no way is he on 60k per week..is he?

He...

  • puts a tough challenge in maybe three times tops per season
  • puts two or three decent whipped in balls per season
  • requires Coleman to stand near him doubing up on wingers so he isn't shown up
  • scores the occasional own goal/concedes needless pens
  • goes missing in every single Derby
  • is practically useless in every other position he's placed in other than the one we have more than enough competition for
His real value is that he has status in the dressing room (apparently, for some unfathomable reason) and he's Moyes eyes and ears in there and backs him and the chairman up to the hilt. From a footballing perspective I defy anyone to make a case for this 34 year old player being handed the possibility of playing on until he's 37 years of age and earning circa £60k pw on the back of it.

You forgot the part where hes ace! Forza Phil.

Always welcome news.

His play often infuriates me but we're shocking without him, anyone who doesn't notice the difference when he's not on the pitch is a pillock.

Mate, then we have a boatload of pillocks that inhabit this forum.

the bloke played with Giggs,Scholes,Beckham,Cantona and can't pass water..
his right foot cross field long balls are offensive to the eyes.. and the fact that all
he gets praise for is his so called leadership just goes to show how god awful a footballer
he is..the idea of him being our next manager makes me feel ill...
if he spent the same amount of time learning to pass as he does dickin' about on twitter..
maybe he wouldn't get on my wick as much...
Moyes likes him because just like Moyes he is the classic example of you don't have to
have talent to be a pro just determination and mouth...
and to make it worse I flipped over my calendar today and he was gurning back at me
with his dumb arsed highlights...

post of the year. i wish dithering davey woulda dithered over offering no-mark phil a new contract
