And there goes Cal cutting straight to the point, ignores the rest of the thread and posts related directly to the thread title.

(y) Nice one.

Thought he was brillient yesterday, it was with out doubt his best game for us so far. he's really started to adapt to are team an the defence in general.
either jags or lescott was MoM for me.

After the bad display against arsenal i was hoping for a few big displays of him. yesterday was great. No nonsence defending and good on the ball. I dont think there is any need for the gaffer to go out ab get a CB. with him stubbs an lescott there's enough there till joey comes back.

I hope he gets the rest of the season at CB as i think he will mature into a quality player.Remember CB come ov age late 20's an joey, lescott an jags will still get better. the futur is in good hands at the back with these boys.

Well done jags, keep it up son!!!

Does beg the question now- what is our best back four. I have to say when Baines is up to speed I think it could well be :

Neville---Jags----Lescott----Baines

All English and a young combined age.

Could agree with that!! what about molding yobo into a right back. he can already play there. what a back 4 that could be....(y)

I have said before im not a big fan of his at the back. Just to get it straight i dont think hes a bad player he just doesnt fill me with confidence, i think hes poor on high balls, doesnt have the pace needed for the modern centre half, his positional play isnt the best (although improving) and i think hes knocked of the ball far to easily.

Like i say i dont think hes a bad player but much like neville in midfeild he does a job, a lot of heart, guts and will try all day! Madness to talk of him replacing Yobo.

agreed. I think we are in need of another first class central defender as Lescott is playing well at left back and offers a little more than baines, defensively at the back.

Wes Brown would want stupid wages, Van Buyten is wanted seemingly by everyone. Simic?

Stubbs isn't getting any younger, so we'll need competition sooner or later.

True mate, have you noticed since Jagelika has been in the team the back line has been playing a lot deeper too. Reminds me of the Weir and Stubbs days not that they were bad but the line has been played an awfull lot higher since that partnership split!

As Bruce would say who would the alternative be ive been looking at the young England under 21 international Richard Stearman at lecister he looks very promiseing but again could do with gaing a little exerience. He can play at in the centere ant at right back as well.

I think Jags has been unconvincing over the past couple of weeks, but given that he [Poor language removed] up in a major way against Arsenal I'm not suprised, no one person can say they've made a mistake in football and not been paranoid they might do it again for a while.
Against City though I thought he looked back on the road to regaining some of the form which saw him arguably be the Man of the Match against Bolton when he had Anelka (the horrible ****) in his back pocket all game, I haven't seen a better individual performance from a defender for a long time than I saw from Jags that day.

He's not a world-beater, but who the [Poor language removed] else are we gonna get in for the right price that is? Exactly.

From When Skies Are Grey - sums it up for me. Havent yet seen any of his long range shots yet though - he scored a couple of crackers un his united days.

".....they found it almost impossible to get past the stubborn Phil Jagielka who seems to enjoy the games where we are under a bit of pressure and he can just snot the ball anywhere. In his head he can still hear a pale and shimmering Neil Warnock, like the ghost of Yoda or Burgess Meredith in Rocky, shouting, "That's it Jags son, TER-WAT IT!"
