PayPal scam

I've had some Herbert trying to get me to send him the phone I was selling on eBay. He reckons he's paid and keeps sending badly edited emails supposedly from PayPal. I'd like to think that no one sends stuff off before making sure the money is already in their PayPal account, but I suppose not everyone is sharp enough to do so.

Ebay tell you if it's paid first, not paypal.
Paypal is just something you check afterwards!

This was a reply after I sent a money request (before the alarm bells). It's actually a further attempt after the first email saying he'd made the payment. The very fact that he said I'd get an email confirming his payment, and that I should then end the listing and post it, rather than asking me to check my PayPal balance was enough of a clue.

I've since relisted the phone and specifically asked that no one messages me for a buy it now price. Of course someone already has! I replied with a price £100 more than it's worth so I don't expect to hear back from him.

If you get the emails on your phone, always check the email sender to make sure it’s real.

If it’s a jarg or suspect one, get shut of it.

Brother-in-law sent a phone to Italy & buyer claimed it hadnt arrived despite there being a signature to say it had, paypal took the money back out of his account & refunded the buyer despite him providing the tracking link etc.
He was about £180 out of pocket.

Quite a common scam and one of the reasons I won`t send stuff abroad.

Report the scammer to ebay also for trying to do a deal privately.
It is a policy violation to try and trade and attempt to circumvent ebay fees.

That's one of the reasons I never send anything of value abroad
