Player Valuation: £950k
So Sky Sports News are reporting that Everton are interested in bringing in Pavel Pogrebnyak from Zenit, who want 10 million for their star striker. After hearing both Vagner Love and Jovanovic both claiming that Everton have made approaches, its got me thinking, is there money available after all? These are not the kind of players you try to get on loan, they are the best players at their current clubs. If Zenit asked us to take Arteta on loan would we let him, I think not! Back to Pogrebnyak, although he has bagged them werever he has played, I still don't think that he is an 'exciting signing'. Bayern Munich yesterday said that they would let Lukas Podolski go for 9.5 million, I know who I would rather have. To me, Podolski would be a better statement of ambition, and would certianly adapt more to the Premier League. I also think that we would stand a chance of getting him, wages wouldnt be sky high, promise of first team football every week and there seem to be no 'massive' clubs queing up to sign him.

On another note, could you imagine the Gwladers Street singing 'Poggy Poggy Poggy, Oi Oi Oi'

Gotta love all these groundless rumors

We won't be getting Pogrebnyak. Zenit will not be selling Pogrebnyak. Even at 10m, which is far less than Zenit would sell him for, we could never afford him right now.

I cant comment on the cash front, i honestly dont think we could afford any of them, plus as you say it would be hard to get any of them on loan, but lets just say Bill has got £10m under his mattress and you are giving me the choice between the names you mentioned.

I would take any of them in all fairness, i dont think i would object to us signing any of them, i think lukas could be troublesome, he looks like he sulks a lot, but hes a skillful player. Proggy has impressed me on the little bits ive seen him, but cant say ive really seen much of him. Milan would have been a good signing, hes a classy player and its a shame he considers us to be a small club. Cant say ive ever seen Love play, but his stock is high, so he must be half decent, plus hes got cool hair.

I hope this has some running in it. Much better player than the fool at Spurs. Before the Euro's last year myself and a few people were pinning our hopes on this bloke, then he got injured just before the tournament and never had his price hiked up like Arshavin did. Those 2 players would have been awesome together.

Might be able to do a loan deal as the russian season is now over. Dont think it will happen though

With Zenith the defending UEFA Cup champs and clearly about to lose Arshavin for a shedload of cash, can't see any reason whatsoever that they'd entertain any idea of letting him go.

Although - Zenith finished a poor 5th in their league so will have to qualify for next season's 'Europa League', his contract's apparently up in December and at 25, he may feel now's the right time to move on to a 'higher' league.

If he is available on loan with a view to buy, its an absolute must...the deal is right up our street. [Poor language removed] Bolton, if we dont lodge a bid I will not be best pleased.

Pogrebnyak rules out Goodison move 27 January 2009 - 12:42 PM | Sport.co.uk

"I heard that Bolton were interested, but the most intensive club was Everton - I almost became a member of their squad.

"But ultimately the Liverpool club didn't find enough money to buy-out my contract. However I must admit that the Premier League is my favourite competition and I would like to try myself there at some point."
