Paul Elliot has been forced into quitting all FA posts, including his position at Kick It Out after sending a text to Richard Rufus calling him the N word over a failed business venture. :o

Madness, you couldn't make that up!

The FA accepts resignation of Paul Elliott from all roles representing the organisation

The FA has today (Saturday) accepted the resignation of Paul Elliott from all roles representing the organisation.

This follows a conversation in which discriminatory abusive comments were made to Richard Rufus.

Elliott has resigned from his roles with The FA, as a member of the Association's Judicial Panel and as a nominated member of UEFA committees. He has also left his role at Kick It Out.

FA Chairman David Bernstein said: "I wish to thank Paul for his dedicated and unstinting work, particularly in the area of anti-racism. I am saddened by this turn of events and it is with regret that we accept Paul's resignation.

"However, the use of discriminatory language is unacceptable regardless of its context and in effect has made Paul's position untenable."

Actually find that a bit of a shame. Elliot always came across a decent, principled guy, but to that is just bonkers. He must have been on the ale or something.

His leaving statement

“Earlier this week, a former friend and business colleague made public a text message I sent him, in which I used a term which is widely known as being derogatory to my own community. I regret using it; it is inappropriate and not part of my everyday vocabulary.

Yeah nice and inclusive there. I thought the whole point of tackling racism was that we are all one community of human beings, regardless of our race, colour, creed....

Fighting racism shouldn't be about creating some kind of black trade union, it should be about ensuring that everyone is treated equally. Be nice if that was remembered.

Exactly.

If his community isn't 'everyone' shouldn't it be the place he lives/English football/his workplace etc?

Can you be racist aginst your own race? I thought it was acceptable for blacks to call each other that and it only became racist when white people started using it. Honestly black people don't seem offended when called it by somebody else who is black from my experience of witnessing it.

He was a bit silly like wasn't he.
