Bonjour mes amis,

Has anyone been to Paris, recently or ever? Taking the missus at the end of May for 4 nights. Got it all planned out and it should be pretty boss. I have 2 questions though:

- Is it worth going to the louvre? I don't think it will be but I'm not sure
- Is the metro easy to use

If anyone has any ideas of things they'd recommend then by all means please share.

Merci

I got half way up the first floor of the eiffel tower, **** myself, then went back down.

That's all I remember of Paris.

Full of French people. Will probably give it a miss.

I went there last year, it was awesome.

Louvre is well worth it but go early when the ques aren't too big. Some of the other museums and galleries are great too.

It's not as expensive as some seem to think if you're prepared to have a look about for places to eat and drink, it's France, even the little scruffy looking cafe/bistro places serve excellent food.

Walking down by the Seine is fantastic on a nice day, and tons of people decide just buy a bottle of cheap plonk, a nice crusty loaf, and some cheese and just picnic down by the banks of the river.

At night however, it can be a very, very dodgey place. More so than most major European capitals.

I loved it there. Enjoy x

Pat, I went last year but not for very long and loved it hence the slightly longer return this time. Was planning on heading to a few museums as I am a big impressionist fan and I know there is lots of impressionism floating around in Paris. We were planning on having a picnic on the Champ de Mars but I think you described the Seine perfectly so we may have to reconsider (y)

Nik, I wasn't planning going up it, too far for me, would rather look at it from somewhere else

It's stunning mate.

Yes and Yes. Don't go to Cab, it's fk off expensive. Louvre is pretty cool. Massive tho, I got proper sore feet looking round it. Pompidou Centre is also cool. Big modern art museum with all its ventilation on the outside! There's loads of cool live music venues too, tho I couldn't tell you where cos I went with a local. Lots of Jazz places etc. There's also a pretty cool little 'artisans' shopping area in Le Place des Vosges (near La Bastille), some nice shops there, and Ile Saint Louis has some pretty cool little shops down the sideroads, and is just next to the island which Notre Dame is on.

Edit: Can't bothered posting individual imgs, so here's my album off facebook: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.462479135457.258062.726290457&type=3

The only problem I have with going to the louvre is how big it is because there's so much we want to see and not that much inside the museum that we want to see, if that makes sense? We also have a day at Disney (because we're big children really) so we're losing a day there almost.

There are a few jazz bars that I want to go to whilst there because I am a big jazz fan, also quite lucky that it's the Saint-Germain Jazz festival whilst we're there so might see what's happening live music wise when we're there.

Great pics too mate.

And you as well EB!

good place , lots to see , go on the metro they have day passes and you can see most things after a short walk its easy to use, try Notre dame on a Sunday while a mass is on its great, there are English speaking nuns who can give you a tour there around the place, be careful around the Louvre as there are problems with pickpockets and aggressive beggars the staff in the Louvre went on strike the other week over it , as normal in any big city keep your whit's about you and stay on the tourist trail. you can get in some really shady areas within minutes, four days is about right you will have a great time

Great place. Metro is easier than London I thought

If you can, go to the Eiffel Tower in the day and at night dude

Went in December to watch PSG. In and out in a day. Which was a day too long.

****hole. Amongst the biggest ****holes in Europe, and for my money it's the most over-rated city in the world.

The missus loves the place (n) She spent 6 months there au pairing and then returned as part of her modern languages degree thingy. I wish she'd have a hankering for somewhere like Belgrade, Hamburg or Bruges instead.

Metro was very easy for me, Moulin Rouge is a right outside a metro station too.

the little statue of liberty is good walk along the river and as you're walking there you can see some great buildings on the left hand side.

the top floor of the Pompidou Centre has some amazing views of Paris.

watch out for pickpockets, but there just as bad in London as they are Paris. (not to sound racist) the shady ones are usually eastern European, u can spot them a mile off.

I went last year in the beginning of April. I loved it. The louvre isnt really worth it imo. Dont get me wring the art and sculptures are amazing but the crowds are unbearable. In the Mona Lisa room there was just a huge crowd crowning in front of it. Couldnt get within 25ft of the painting.

The metro is easy to use if you can use the tube in london. Its just a little different I think instead of the direction of the train being labeled with a number like in london, it's the name of the stop of the end of the line.

Montmartre is a pretty cool place on top of a hill. The church is pretty cool. We went in during a service (they let tourists walk around the perimeter so you can see the service) and it was the most intense place I've ever experienced in my life. It was dead silent except for the Priest (or whoever was speaking).

Other than that, going to the top of the Eiffel tower is definitely cool but the line might be extremely long.

Paris is one of the best places on earth.

Eiffel tower is a must, and you must walk down the steps to come back down. Its the most surreal sensation. You walk down so many steps that you forget how to walk down steps. Honestly. You must try it.
