Pardew- In talks with Palace

Over the last 5 years, since they came up, they've spent 7 million net to our 4 million in transfer fees. Most of their players in were funded by sales (cabaye, ba, barton, nolan, carroll, enrique etc.).

They've spent 99 million to our 88 million in gross but that's because they've earned more by selling.

Other the same 5 years they've also spent another 2 million on agents compared to us. We tend to be the 10th biggest spender on agents and they tend to be the 9th.

So last 5 years, they've spent 5 million more on transfers. So a million extra a year.

But we pay bigger wages. 69 million last year to their 64 and over the 5 years about 3 million a year extra. So if you can offer bigger wages, that gives you more options in terms of what players you can bring in (Arsenal for instance managed to stay in the top 4 for years while not buying much on the back of paying huge wages).

So in terms of agent fees, transfers and wages, we spend about 2 million more a year on our playing squad then they do on theirs.

Which isn't much but we're really really good at being effecient with money so matching us on slightly less is quite impressive.

Pardew is literally the only manager to finish above us in the last 8 years who hasn't had a budget more than twice as big as us. Teams who can't spend 3-4 million for every million we spend don't really ever do better than us and for one season his newcastle team did.

So I don't think he really is a terrible manger. Not a great one obviously but he has something about him.

WOW,that really is a concise answer! Very impressed. Also, amazed at how well pardew has actually done according to those figures.
Thanks

Really amazed they went for Pardew.

I was hoping they would go for one of the European 'names' who wanted a crack at the prem.

Still I suppose they need someone to keep them up and see Pardew as that man.

I've got the title for Pardew's book when he writes it.

The Compleat Tit

When the battle was over and the points were delivered, Alan Pardew came careering down the touchline, blowing kisses and punching the air.

'I only have one criticism, which is a strange one for the manager to make - they are too honest, too straight. You can't win Premier League games if you are too disciplined,' he said.

'There's a fantastic set of professionals here, I haven't had one fine this week and I'm finding that very unusual as a Newcastle manager - because we used to fine players every 42minutes!

'I'm not being disrespectful to Newcastle players,

He has few advocates in the media, or elsewhere, but in terms of win percentage in the Premier League, Pardew’s record of 37.8% is superior to many managers with better reputations, including Harry Redknapp, Roy Hodgson, Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis. When you look at managers who have managed at least 100 Premier League games only four Englishmen – Roy Evans, Bobby Robson, Kevin Keegan and, er, John Gregory – have a better win percentage.

The English media has just never taken to him. Possibly because he's a complete nutcase. He did a great job at Newcastle(as highlighted by Carver) and is doing a great job at Palace, maybe people should be reassessing him.

He is always so keen to credit himself that it probably puts people off giving him any more praise.

A little more modesty, and less bellend behaviour, would likely do wonders for his PR.

He is and will forever remain an absolute tit.

I agree with the rest.
