Now I have to say this first. I don't like criticising referee's. My grasp on the laws of the game is on the same level as most of the commentators on radio or TV.

Watching from the top balcony I remember seeing a good Graham Poll referee game when all around were calling him all sorts of names.

I even decided to watch the 50 mins higlights from Sky before commenting.

That said, this has to be one of the worst refeering performances this side of Graham Poll or Mike "Man U fan" Riley. I cannot describe how bad he was. It was truly dreadful.

Hull played like Hull Kingston Rovers, and he handed bookings out like confetti. The booking for both Fellaini and Cahill were beyond a joke.

To quote todays news of the world;

"It was not a glorious day for the match officials, including referee Martin Atkinson.

He was named in Rafael Benitez’s bizarre rant against Alex Ferguson on Friday, with the Liverpool boss fuming Fergie was not punished for his verbal bashing of Atkinson.

Having seen this, you have to think the FA went easy on the United gaffer because his criticism was spot on.

Atkinson booked seven and lost control of the game at times with his weak handling of Hull’s boisterous play. "

In these harsh economic times I don't want to advocate that some loses their job, but for the love of God, if the FA really want their respect agenda to work, they have to get rid of this man.

By and large, you have to be an egotistical turd to become a 'top ref' in the all-singing, all-dancing Premiership. Every circus needs its ringmaster. The only ref I ever thought was decent was Dermot Gallagher.

I do realise, that referees have a very tough job and will always make mistakes. That said, I honestly believe the level of refereeing (not only in England) is in a freefall. Clattenberg takes some beating in my eyes. Still gets my bloodlevel rising thinking about that ****.

You're absolutely spot on with your comment about the respect agenda.
