To be fair, any goal against Germany is great, but this is in my top 3.

I loved those tournaments though, where teams would rock up with men who didn't look like footballers that you'd never heard of

I remember half heartedly collecting that year. The Bulgarian team had great hair. Look like regulars at the local rock bar. Bet they hall had ill fitting jeans. Poor Lechkov (who had a great tournament)

I miss tournaments where teams would turn up looking like roadies for a Scorpions gig and then turn over much flashier opposition. Was it USA '94 when the Romanian team all bleached their hair?

Don't feel too sorry for Yordan, he never paid for a drink or dinner in his country again.

Great goal v Germany

To be fair, any goal against Germany is instantly a classic.

This is in my all time favourite goal against them though; it's got everything, a diving header from 18 yards out, keeper at full stretch can't get near it, knocks the Germans out of the tournament and was personal vindication for Lechkov after the Klinsmann dive against him in the first half.

When I was doing sticker albums Merlin did the Premier League, so I never touched it.

I think at one point I had about 98% of the world's Trifon Ivanov Bulgaria '94 panini sticker. Ended up covering entire school books with it, surprised the school didn't call the therapist in to have a quiet word with me. Just googled the image of it, had forgotten that he looks like he spotted his ex in the crowd.

Didn't forget the hair. Glorious. Where I live, there are still men with this hairstyle, you can see them waiting in their Skoda Felicias while their wives (who have the same hairstyle) carry crates of beer from the supermarket.

He is my absolute top memory from that world cup. He died a few years back if I remember, quite young.

I always remember someone saying he even had hairy eyelids.

Died 2016 from a heart attack. Aged 50.

That top picture he looks like he should be playing prop forward for France.
