Palacios is going to a "big club". [Poor language removed] silly if you ask me. Wigan are a solid little team now, 7th in the league by about a clear 5 points and even more clear from Spurs and probably will be next season.

Good on Wigan to make money out of him though. Bought him for 1million and are now selling in for around £14million. Playing it shrewd and I bet they get another cheeky, maybe even better midfielder in while Spurs will be whinging that the team "isnt working" again.

Baffles me how players still regard them as a big club. Downing was the same, even though Boro were higher in the league. I guess big club for the modern player = a club that pays big wages.

Wigan are just having a purple patch, they will slide down the table again soon. They are not a good side IMO.

You cant underestimate then IMO. They get a more solid a defender than Titus Bramble, another creative CM, and another striker (the guy they're getting in on loan is a very good striker....well he's a Footy Manager legend anyway) they'll be a solid side.
Wigan were unlucky not to get a point at Manure on Wednesday, even Fergie said so which is rare, they had lots of chances in the 2nd half but Vidic was a bit of machine that game.

Bruce is building slowly and has a good eye for good players that I'm not surprised that they'll get better if he stays there a long term - its the same with Hodgson at Fulham, both better teams than Spurs, Newcastle, Citeh etc at the moment.

The problem is only certain players will move to Wigan, they won't be getting any genuine quality players with that money. It just isn't an attractive club for good players.

They might pull off another Palacios and develop him into a top player but even that will be hard. He was one of there best players, he made them tick centrally. He'll be a big miss for them.

They are doing well though, i dont think they are an exceptionaly good team, nor do i think Fulham are the Key to success this season is winning or drawing if you show any consistencey or put a run together this season your going to well compared to other seasons as most teams cant string two results together on the bounce.

Whelan gradually scaled down his interests in the company - in 2005 he stepped down as chairman.[2] In January 2007 he sold £50m of shares in JJB,[3] before selling his remaining 29% stake in June 2007.This action was in contradiction of a statement that Whelan made to the stock exchange on 26 January 2007 whereby he undertook to make no further disposals for the following 12 months.[4] This action may now lead to an investigation by the Financial Services Authority. [5]

He sure did.

Palacios will be a big miss but Bruce has brought in other players equally as good for less than nothing - Valencia and Zaki being 2 superb additions, Zaki was out of the blue big time - I know they wont keep him, but if they keep eyeing up talant like that they'll do well for themselves, they'll probably be the team that do all the scout work for the big clubs by finding them, keeping them for a season and making money out of them.

They wont win anything or be top 6 contenders etc but they'll remain in the league for seasons comfortably if they keep it up.

Because players like Darren Bent make 95K/week after having 1 good season, that's why people want to go there. I bet 90% of (non-French) players would rather go to less successful Spurs than frugal Arsenal.

Palacios is a decent buy, especially for 13-14M, which makes me wonder why Spurs are interested. Surely the pool of overrated Englishmen that Spurs are famous for buying isn't dryed up yet?? If I was Whelan I would hold out for 16-18M.

It would be wise to keep an eye on what Bruce is doing at Wigan. He has a ton of contacts in places like Egypt and South and Latin America. Territories we should be looking at. Palacios 1M buy (sold for 14M) is Honduran. Valencia (bought for 350K) will sell for 15-20M) is from Ecuador. Plus Quito, Ecuador's biggest club, just won the Copa America so they probably have some quality players on the side.

I think Lewel signed valencia mate but i get your point. They signed another young South American this week.

Im sure Birmingham are kicking themselves that they let Palacious go for a free this time last year!
