Paint Stripping

Trade emulsion from Screwfix already diluted for you. Throw a few coats on then when dry add your normal paint.

Wouldn't even know who or what to search for or what a baseline price would be.

Some of the people who do floor sanding also do this sort of stuff and a lot of decorators will do it too.

It`s a really hard graft and madly boring, plus the smell of the paint stripper is horrendous and gets on your chest.

I started on ours a while back and ended up getting someone in.

It was like glue sniffing and working at the same time lol

I'll do the rest of the house for a sleeping bag and a shed lol

I used a 60/40 mist coat on my fresh plaster, likely you'll need two good coats afterwards so in my mind any stronger mist coat means you've just wasted paint.

With the stairs, are you stripping the banister and the spindles back to bare wood.
If so, I found it an absolute mission, especially if the spindles are 'turned' and for want of a better word, ornate.
I actually removed my spindles in the end and replaced them. much easier, though obviously more costly.

This fella knows his stuff.

Regarding the spindles they have probably been varnished under that paint.
Use a shave hook to scrape as much off as you can then use stripper ,which is safer than those guns if used correctly.
You'll probably burn the wood using that gun.

Or years ago painters used to grain wood using scumble, a modern day version was paint and grain.

Not sure what you mean by a mist coat for plaster but you can by proper stuff to apply before you pain plaster.
I think it forms some kind of plastic coat in the plaster or on the surface meaning you don’t have to give it abar 5 coats of paint. I think it also protects the plaster from damp if it’s on an outside wall.

If this is what you mean anyway then just ignore me, most do

edit, as for the paint stripping, I know a boss brass who does a good strip.
Have a fire blanket or extinguisher or both handy, just in case

Alright DIY nerds out there.

I'm going to try and strip paint off some stairs with a heat gun but I have no idea what I'm getting myself into.

Is there anything I need to know before I start, because once I do I obviously have to finish it.

Ta.

Buy a small fire extinguisher ( powder one will do ). Probably get one for about a tenner.
