There was an interesting discussion within another thread on here recently concerning our likely final league position.

I think its safe to say that Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool are pretty certain to finish ahead of us, and unfortunately I looks like Man City will.

So for me, that rules out top 5.

"Spurs look strong this year" - yeah its all been said before and I've always been one to dismiss it but this year I actually fancy them to do well. They have squad strength and no domestic suicide in the Europa league. So if I was a betting man I would go for Spurs to finish ahead of us.

So that leaves 7th. I think we are better than Villa and on a good season I think thats were we'll finish. On a really good season, or one with a centre midfielder who could pick a pass, we could have pipped Spurs.

Opinions?

I think it's too early to make decision on where we did finish comes the end of season, points could be drop anywhere along the line even for Chelsea, Man City and Spurs just dropped points against Man U already and who's to say City won't drop point next week against Man U?

There is almost no team in the Premier League makes me think we can't beat them on the day and where we did finish would take another 10 games or so.

We have some easy game coming up and by the 13 or 14th match we would have played Villa, Man Utd & RS and depending on how we do in the matches we did see a clearer picture on where about we did finish.

At the moment if we could finish 5th or 6th I would be delighted!

Ive said it all Summer lerds. The top 4 are too far ahead of us, we havent improved enough to catch them up. For me Spurs and City have made some good signings and are both set to have a good season. I can see Sunderland having a decent season as well, they have lots of money and will no doubt add more players in January.

Then theres the surprise package that will keep us fighting hard till the end. I can see us being in a race with 1 or 2 other Clubs fighting for 8th or 9th.

Sadly we didnt improve enough to push ahead, clearly Moyes isnt happy about this, he is echoing what some of us have been saying all summer. We need to spend some money, we barely covered the players we lost at the end of the season, the players we got in are of higher quality, but we didnt address the massive holes we have within the squad.

Its a shame really, for the 3rd season on the run we havent taken that major leap forward that is needed.

/cue the happy clappy people pointing out Bills Boys Pen history.

To go just a touch off topic, I think Arse will be the 1s who miss the CL party this year, they have some excellent players, but they lack a certain something, a Viera.

Wengers last year for sure IMO.

And to go back on topic :

I hope im wrong, but I dont think its going to be just about us this season, normally we can finish as high as we like just by winning, but other teams will be doing lots of this winning games stuff as well.

There are no easy games this season, clearly I expect to beat everybody at Home and we will beat most teams, but its Away from Home that we will struggle, Away from Home you need that little bit extra that we lack without Arteta and sadly its going to be a month or 2 before we see him.

I can see Arsenal and Liverpool both having the potential to miss out this year, especially if there are injuries (as there will be undoubtedly to Doris). Still a scrum just under the four, but I've gone for sixth. Probably depends on how our cup runs go.
