Can only congratulate the lad if he does. Records are there to be broken. Whatever total he ends up on, he's a phenomenal talent and a pleasure to watch.
That in the modern game any player can be spoken of as being a realistic challenger to a record that’s stood for nearly 100 years is a huge credit to him and a recognition of his extraordinary talent . I was massively irritated by the manufactured records like Messi’s “most goals in a calendar year “ but Haaland is showing that when it comes to goalscoring he’s a very special talent .

That said I don’t think he will and I certainly hope it remains unbroken .

I honestly think only Evertonians could have probably the greatest goal scorer in the history of the game in their record books, the possessor of a feat that’s stood for nearly 100 years and cheerfully dismiss him as crap .

Every sportsman is a product of his time and can only excel in that era , William Ralph Dean is a true great of the game . If Evertonians don’t appreciate that then other blues can’t really be moaning when the record doesn’t get a mention on sky .

If you know your history and all that .

Dean was just a goal hanger.
Funny you should say that...

No. Neither would Puskas, Di Stefano, Billy Liddle, Tommy Lawton. I could go on all night.
Yes, the game has changed, but he broke the goal record when other comparable CF's did not - with the same rules & conditions plus he got £3.00 per game with England he got the same but with travel expenses - he was hauled in over the expenses as all his receipts were one old penny out - he gave them a mouthful claiming they did not give receipts to go for a pee..... they were refusing to pay his travel expenses & food etc over this issue .....
