Its the whole team we're not as solid overall as we have been in previous years.

The defence needs looking at i think its consistencey and balance more then anything. Yobo i thought was a rock last night and Distins recent performences have been encourageing.
 
Yobo's a funny player, he seems to think he's a ball playing centre back, he'll usually try and skin a forward one or twice a game. The problem is, after a nice bit of footwork or a Cruyff turn he'll just chip the ball forward into no mans land. His distribution really does my head in, more so than the likes of Distin's and Jagielka's.

Johnny Heitinga's the one you want to give the ball too, he can bring it forward, he can keep it short and simple and he can also spray it around and pick out long range passes. As Tim Howard said, he's like our quarterback.

Yup.

He had a back problem so didnt feature the other night. Hopefully will be okay for the away leg.

I hope he gets more chances. Think he's a good young-ish defender who has played at a very high level since he was young. Should make him a blue in the summer IMO being he's on a free.

That's ok then. Was worried we'd be going to Portugal with one centre back again.

Agreed. It's like that season where Carsley was injured for most of it, and we struggled with our shape all year, conceeding a lot of soft goals which undermined the whole campaign. Now, like then, something's missing that gels the whole team together and makes sure that everyone is on the same wavelength. Lescott and/or Jagielka, probably.

i don't understand how carsley being injured would have affected our performance

I tend to agree mate, i still wouldnt mind a midfeild destroyer in the team preferably one that has a bit of quality as well!
