What with the row that has ensued since the release of the Oscar Nominations, do you believe there is a certain amount of discrimination against Black actors/actresses as per Will Smith etc refusal to attend to the show or do you agree with Charlotte Rampling who believes that maybe the row is 'racist to white people'

FWIW i think its a good idea to diversify the committee who chooses who and what gets nominated.

Sorry ive just read it back and it sounds a little like an exam question.

Firstly, quotas should NEVER be considered. Tokenism is not the answer.

I think Rampling's ramblings will only serve to fan the flames and it's a bit of a dumb thing to say in the current light of things.

In my opinion, the biggest issue is with the diversity in casting in films, more so than the Oscars themselves. If not enough non-white actors are doing the strongest roles, then how can they be nominated?

Fwiw America has approx 12% black people (so I've read) meaning proportionally you'd only expect to see 1-2 nominated anyway. Perhaps those 1-2 just didn't turn in Oscar-worthy performances this year?

I really don't like the racism/diversity line being spun out all the time though. Starting to annoy me.

I so wanted to make a not so funny joke about Oscar getting into a row with Diversity, but I have thought better off it to save you all.

So if a black man/women get nominated next year then people will see it as a token gesture. I've not a film buff so don't know if any were worthy enough to be nominated this year.

I'm offended that white men don't win the Olympics 100metres more often.

I'm glad Will and his missus aren't attending, it will save her the embarrassment of not getting nominated for her role in the groundbreaking film Magic Mike.
