Origins of the "Everton, Oh We Love Everton" song

This goes back - at least - to the 1970 team. I can well remember hearing it to the names of the 1970 title winning side

Gordon West - Tommy Wright - Sandy Brown - Howard Kendall - Brian Labone - Colin Harvey - Alan Whittle (might have been Jimmy Husband) - Alan Ball - Big Joe Royle - Johnny Hurst - Johnny Morrissey... (and perhaps a substitute (Alan Whittle?).

(in reverse order)

Everton oh we love Everton oh Everton oh we love Everton...

Anyway I definitely was brought up on this in the early 70s.

The song of the 69-70 team ended with umpteen repititions of Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick.
Happy, happy days.

Yeah, Andy's right, different song Dan.
The 69/70 one was literally just the team names (Gordon West, Tommy Wright, Sandy Brown, Howard Kendall, Brian Labone, Colin Harvey, Jimmy Husband, Alan Ball, Joey Royle, Johnny Hurst, Johnny Morrissey)
Harry Catterick Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick, Harry Catterick ad infinitum - To the Hari Krishna tune

Me and my brother left the house about 2am to walk to town, about 40 mins. Train left about 4.50 so was absolutely knackered, but what a day, winning, running farmers all over the hoe, and buying? Massive pasties.

I was working nights prior to the Plymouth game. Should have finished at 6AM but bunked off at about 3-30 and got a mate to clock me out at 6.
Great times, great day, great pasties. I remember the 'programme' was actually a newspaper. Still got it somewhere along with a few hundred others, mostly late 60s or early 70s

Love these Uncle Albert threads me.
Next best thing to sharing a pint with a blue with plenty of years on you.

You're just reminding me that I can't remember what happened yest..

The reason that our chucklesome neighbours only took a few handcarts to Ipswich on the same day that we nearly snapped off the SW English peninsula with the sheer weight of our humanity is because ours was an away game, whilst theirs was (technically) a homer and hence a reason to taste their Mams "carrot pie".
