When did we first start singing this fantastic tune?

Did it first come to life in that glorious era or did it emerge say around the 90's era when were shocking and we sang it to cheer ourselves up?

The reason I ask is I posted a link on my Faceache page of a load of blues singing it in Dresden and some Kopite helmet thinks we've pinched it from them singing about Gary McAllister (prick).

I'm convinced I remember us singing it in the nineties and that baldy bellend didn't join the redshite until around 2000 if I remember correctly.

Save the day please older blues who lucky enough to remember that team. This to me is more important than the current troubles of the world.

Cheers!

First time I can honestly remember hearing/singing it was in an FA Cup tie away at home Park against Plymouth Argyle, early 1970's.
Tremendous day out, thousands made the trip and we won !! ;)

My Dad has sung that around the house since I was old enough to remember. My favourite song, maybe one day we could update it with other legends

I remember it being sung in the late 70s

Was singing this in the early nineties when I first went to the match.

Reading the other posts it obviously started much earlier than that.

In other words your Kopite mate is a murderous gobshite and should crawl back underneath the paving slab he came out from.

famous story I heard years ago to that game Andy,I think the RS were also drawn away that day possibly to Ipswich, lime street was very busy as you'd imagine,........with evertonians, the kopites were outnumbered by about ten to one!!

I was at that one. Cracking day. Big Bob Latch and Duncan Mc with the goals IIRC. To make it better the RS got beat at Ipswich the
the same day

First time I recall hearing the song was a night game at Leicster think it was 1980 and that version started with and we love our Georgie Wood. Great memories of Plymouth away in 1975 what a following we had that day.

9 specials went from Lime St.

Spot on mate. Nine specials of Blues to Plymouth while they took just five to Ipswich.
The bizzies on duty at Lime Street had a field day taking one can of ale from every carry-out bag, they must have been bladdered by the time we got past Runcorn :):):)

Me and six mates drove to Lime Street from Salford and we were on train 5... thoroughly boss day out and saved a fortune getting the special.
