Optimism

Shame that a significant amount on this forum don't want optimism. Too many negative posters and closet Kopites on the wind up. So not only do they plague every other thread with their pessimism they'll come in this one to repeat what we've heard elsewhere.

Have to sell to buy, Bolasie isn't good enough, why aren't we buying players/why are we buying them!?

But above all else, nothing has changed lol.

It's not like I think we're going to storm in to a top 4 finish myself, but I accept the reality of where we are after Martinez took us to 2 mid table finishes and unravelled the top 7/8 consistency that Moyes brought. For those who don't believe everything the media tells them, this window was about strengthening in certain positions and trying to bring in at least one fairly big name. We've improved our centre back situation by making a £44m profit on Stones, and replacing him with a better defender which is what we needed. We may get Kone too now which would improve us even more in our weakest position in the team. Koeman has identified players he doesn't think are good enough, and we've brought in Walsh. We will be trying to bring in a statement signing, but I imagine it's quite hard to pitch 11th place to a new player from a team that's half decent.

Take 8th placed Liverpool for example. Surely they've been raiding Europe's top clubs for talent with their prestigious name in World Football and ambitious manager in charge? Oh wait, they've paid £25m for Wijnaldum of relegated Newcastle, brought in Ragnar Klavan from Augsburg and paid a bargain £34m for Mane of Southampton. What about West Ham? Paid a record fee for Ayew from Swansea, and brought in Lanzini from Al Jazira in the UAE. Quaking here at the prospect of our competition this season.

So yes we haven't had an excellent window yet, but we're making progress and there are still 2 and a half weeks to go. A lot can happen, and will in that time but it still won't be good enough for some.

How dare you come on here talking reasoned sense taking me away from my pleach aperitif!

This season was never going to be the new dawn though realistically was it ?? Koeman only been here a few weeks, I thought Rom and John were always going to leave anyway. We are where we are.. no point worrying about it just yet. We will make signings to secure our prem status....next year improve on that.. year 3 we will be back in europa. Who knows after that. Im staying positive....till at least Spurs !!!
Yes, new owner, new stadium in the mix, Steve Walsh, and what is surely a long term plan, with the foundations almost in place.
I predict Everton to be Champions in 3 years. Just in time for the new stadium.

I for one am much more optimistic then this time last year. Thing's might not be great but at least now we have a manager who isn't a complete fool. I'm confident that things will be much better then last season even if it's not quite at the level I'd like.

If the only improvement we see this season under Koeman is the gang of shitehawks actually turning up at each Derby game, will consider the season a success!
