Operation Plato

If the suspect has a bomb on them, police are authorised to use lethal force (head shot). Can't completely tell from the video, but it did look like body shots.

Following the officer being charged in London for using lethal force on that car ramming fella, there's no surprise armed officers are now hesitant to fatally shoot.

I believe we should hold the Police to extremely high standards, especially when using firearms and I have been very critical on here of some instances of the Police's use of force in the past few years.

In this case, however, having seen the footage, I think they handled the incident as professionally as possible there.
They believed the attacker had an explosive device strapped to himself. They are limited in the moment to how accurately they can verify this and have to operate on the assumption that it is a live device.

I've seen some talk online that they could have used tasers as the suspect only had a knife in his hand. That is out of the question in this situation, as the electrical arc could ignite flammable material or set off any electrical triggers the attacker may have.

They gave him multiple warnings before firing. They haven't unloaded on him, but fired enough to incapacitate him. He's then tried to get up and reach for something on his body. Once again, they have to operate on the assumption that it is a live device, they've given him yet more warnings before firing again.

Given the severity of the situation, how fast they've been at the scene and had to respond, I don't see how they could handle this any differently.

My one criticism here is that there should have been another officer moving the crowd back away from the attacker.

That's based just on the footage I have seen of course, so interested to see what further info comes out.

With regard crowd control, from the vid there simply wasnt enough 5 0 on the scene.

And in fast moving incidents, thats to be expected.

Was in Llandudno last week and there were actually bobbies on the beat, just walking around, dont see them any more.

It's also worth including that the murderer who has attempted to get into a church building to get access to more potential victims is wearing a very visible potential explosive device, this was on show for a reason, the attacker knew full well and seems prepared to have been confronted by police with the outcome being permanently stopped and killed.

Struck me as odd there were no reports of any 'allahu akbar' shouts during the incident, which is usually the case in jihadist incidents.
Took a bit longer than 'normal' for the 'extremist muslim' rhetoric to be officially endorsed.

They've been very keen on his back story as a Syrian kid who naturalised in the UK at age ~ 4. Very quick to suggest terrorist links and following six subsequent arrests.

I realise the media want dirt asap, but sometimes the investigation has to be allowed to take the time it takes.

Exactly. Regardless of what his reasoning may appear to be, it’s supposition as the elephant in the room is the police can’t ask him for his reasoning.

Even if he’s left or written/posted a clear objective somewhere, the cause has to be investigated, and that takes time and importantly precision.
