Opera...........

Any blues like a bit of opera from time to time?

In a way the passions aroused by opera are quite similar to that of football, perhaps one of the reasons why the Italians have such a passion for both.

I performed many years ago in an English National Opera performance of Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" at the Royal Court Liverpool amongst other places...

Appreciate I am opening myself up to a lot of stick here..

Only people who are narrow minded would give you stick. Operas go back 100s of years in some cases.

Certain pieces of classical music are very powerful, the little I hear of them. I like watching people with really powerful voices singing too. Suppose I'd go if I got the chance. Not likely though.

Certainly counts! - who else can come out of the classical/operatic "closet" ?

Bump!
Going to watch Handel's 'Messiah' this weekend... It's not really an opera, but an oratorio... A large scale sacred piece without the costumes, scenery, and melodrama (i.e fat soprano's in viking gear)...
Looking forward to it!

I went to see Rigoletto at the Prague Opera House when I went away with my ex and experienced the Culture of Prague in the Winter. Enjoyed it.

Went back to Prague on a stag weekend in the Summer a few years later and experienced a very different side to the city. Loved it.

Can't say I am a regular partaker like, but I did enjoy seeing Don Giovanni at the Budapest Opera House a few years back, even though the programme was in Hungarian and we had no idea what was goin on.
It was like thrumpence for a ticket as well, and you could get a pint at half time.
