On the eve of the Open I thought I would start a new thread on the event. It already has a cloud of controversy because Muirfield is one of those dinosaur clubs not allowing female members. There is a school of thought that suggest the R&A should boycott such courses and I would support that view.

Saying that, I'm not ethically strong enough to not watch or have a bet in the competition. I love the betting from Saturday morning, after the cut and when you get seriously big odds on players who are not far off the lead. I have, however, taken advantage of Paddy Power's offer on first 7 pay out with a few early each way punts to small stakes;
Rick Fowler @ 50s
Jason Duffner @ 75s
Dustin Johnson @ 40s

Any views?

They hold up play on the course, bin them off I say.

Seriously, what you said made me look up this picture, top bombing

Can't see any of those three doing much this week mate, terrible links golfers.

Good bets for me this week are Tiger, Mickleson, Manaserro, Luke Donald and Paul Lawrie.

I knew the "Hot Scot" would be all over this!

Do you play Golf at all Jockster?

I try to, with varying degrees of success.

If the conditions are pretty calm, like the first three days at Castle Stuart, there might be some pretty high scores. Muirfield is an absolute bear when the wind gets up.

Slow and steady wins the race at a links course.
Nice and short and straight off the tee.
Good short game.
Steely nerve.

No surprise that The Open at Muirfield has historically only been won by the greats.

I'll be looking at some e/w ante posting on this seven with PP & WH paying 7 places again

Justin Rose @ 20/1 PP
Phil Mickleson @ 20/1 PP
Ernie Els @ 28/1 PP
Luke Donald 33/1 PP
Charl Schwartzel @ 40/1 PP
Ian Poulter @ 55/1 PP
Padraig Harrington @ 66/1 PP

...not so sure about Fowler, I know he's only young but he's played well over here before and looked like he was returning to form at the US Open. Agree that the course is unlikely to suit a big hitter like Johnson but I always back him and would be sick if he won without my couple of bob on his back.

if your going to have a bet split your stake put half on before the 1st round , and the other half on before the 3rd round thats if your selection makes the cut , if he doesnt you still got half your stake to back someone else

Thomas Bjorn, a very in form player withdrew from the Scottish Open last weekend after round 1, I would check on his fitness if anyone fancies him.

I am going for an American no one has heard of, from a town in the middle of nowhere, and with a stupid name.

Nailed on.
