I know there are one or two members here who live in the 'fair' town of Oldham (I lived there for 8 or 9 years). But last night was the switching on of the Christmas lights. Normally a fun affair for the people who attend, they get semi-celebs out to do the honors. Every year they give out goody bags to the kids. The council (who organize this gala event) have really pulled out a surprise this year. Check out the contents of the goody bags, given to CHILDREN:

Yep, advertising predatory lending establishments.

And do the kids get their picture taken with Santa?

Hell no!!! Why Santa when you can get your pic taken with the Speedy Cash Rat!!!

Well played Oldham Council. Well played.

That is atrociously bad. Someone, somewhere in a boardroom has gone "yes, that's a good idea".

The mind boggles.

I do not appreciate people talking bad of where I live, thank you. I may have only moved here last year, but it's still my home so shush.

To be fair Oldham is not nice and I live in the nice area that is in the far outskirts.

sorry, made me chuckle, think it was probably the way dylan put it. It is very bad in all seriousness though. Went to the Swansea equivillent last night and kept getting harrased by christians trying to persuade me to go to sunday service (one of them forgot it was sunday yesterday). Christmas is a christian holiday so i could excuse that, but the fact chiquito took part in two of the floats miffed me. not sure what mexican chicken has to do with christmas.

Also that goody bag was just from 'Speedy Cash', and that Kangaroo is their mascot which was (as shown in that photo) outside their shop. Not where the main light switch on was, they were just profiting from the influx in visitors, is all. :)

It was a good idea for them. All businesses which are clever use any event possible for an advertisement campaign. I don't understand why people are finding it shocking?
