On the flip side of that, some of those more experienced players, have too much experience of the wrong kind.Losing experience. They did down tools for, four (Martinez Koeman Unsy and Allardyce) successive managers after all.

Erm no. Baines have the penalty away not richarlison.

You could then also say that Pickford should have saved the free kick, Keane gave his man a free header, Walcott (“old”) scored the goal etc.

You can’t say Jagielka cost us points by being sent off after 40 minutes, but Richarlison didn’t by being sent off even earlier.

Of course Baines was stupid to give a penalty away and it had a huge impact on the result. But there are a number of factors that contribute towards winning or losing a football game.

Actually the thread title is spot on....the players from last season are like a huge weight around us becoming better...Baines, Holgate, Davies et Al...they are like from a bygone era....lets bin and move on
