Old Photos Of Where You Live

In my ongoing quest to find the best way to get to/from our new stadium, I got off a bus on Scotland Road and cut through Vauxhall yesterday. I was surprised to see that the Eldon Grove tenements are still standing. Just. A shell of the building in an advanced state of disrepair, the site itself was boarded up so I couldn’t really get any decent pics without ‘breaking in’ (might do this next time). I think these are grade II listed, I’ve been reading about broken promises of renovating them etc. Such a shame…

In the late 50s / early 60s LpoolCC & Manc CC got the offer of the US Burtonwood site with its monster military grade runways already built.
Mancs said yep we're in.
LCC said were LCC, we dont need no stinkin Mancs (allegedly still P off about them building the ship canal 70yrs previous)
And came up with a plan for a decent modern sized runway which stuck out a an angle into that big wide bit of the river estuary...which is sand most of the time.
Then: having turned down the free runways, they got the price - How Much!!??
And built a scaled down half arsed version which is still there now another 60yrs on
While the Mancs did a proper job

Does anyone remember a bar I think was called Scarlets bar on Harrington street use to go there in my late teens, you would walk downstairs to the bar and on the wall above your head as you walked down the stairs was a confederate flag. Now my memory is a bit fuzzy so my be a bit off.

….i’d be sure I went in there quite a few times although I don’t remember the flag.

The Crocodile, Why Not and Pen & Wig for a few.

Used to play pool there at lunchtime but it wasn't Harrington Street, it was on Hackins Hey.
